I don't understand the fawning and foaming fascination with Pitkanen. Most of the time I see a guy with good wheels and good hands skating around on his good wheels controlling the puck with his good hands but not really accomplishing anything.

Randy Jones played well again last night. If another defenseman needs ice it wil be Fred Meyer who sits and watches.

Maybe in your opinion he did. He did nothing out there. Plus he has no vlaue unlike Meyer.

I agree about Jones,, I miss the old #6

I would like to see Esche go for a legit back-up who won't whine about it. How about Esche for Cujo ?

Thought we played pretty well after the 1st, just no luck. Knuble looked real good with Carter and Berger. Props to Sandy as well.
i think the Flames started like 3-10 last year, no need to panic yet.

Yes, in my opinion.

What did Meyer do last night?

What value does Meyer have?

You know, you can be a fan of a team without having a whipping boy on the roster.

Meyer also did not do much, but he was good last year and here is hoping he can get his confidence back.

For 2 periods most of the team was flat.
he also created a slew of "you should have scored" moments for this team that the guy on the other end didn't finish... Calder jumps specifically to mind.

i thought last night was the first game were Meyer created any action through center ice... he'd been invisible prior to last night. nothing resulting in a goal, but he was skating well and being pro-active, rather than passive offensively -- which had been the case prior to last night.

Meyer has been paired with Pitkanen a lot thus year which limits what you can do as his partner considerably, because Pitkanen is all over the place you gotta hang back... part of the reason why it makes sense to have Pitkanen with someone who is naturally going to be back.

From a Habs fan point of view I thought that Meyer was one of you better dmen last night. He was moving the puck well, was one of the only Flyers to give bodychecks. He was seeing limited ice-time though. Different perspective I guess.

See this doesn't make any sense.

You think Pitkanen accomplishes a whole lot of nothing, yet Randy Jones had a good game?

And Meyer had his best game of the season last night.

What?!! Meyer? He didn't score points? How is his +-? He is minus 1? Kick him off the team!! I do not care what he did last year Jones is better.

Meyer was finally on his game, considering he hasn't been all season. So was Jones, for the first time in a long time.

I think Meyer was HUGE last year and I think it is reasonable to expect some sophomore falloff from him early on. I'm being critical of his play thus far without saying he sucks. It can be done.

I think Randy Jones has outplayed Meyer in the early part of this season. Maybe it is expectations.

I like Pitkanen as a player, I just don't understand the whole Demigod Status thing. I'm not saying he sucks or that he belongs in the ECHL or that Randy Jones is a better player. I'm saying I don't understand the adulation. He skates well. That's what i see.

Well I don't know what to say to you to make you see otherwise (I want to refrain from saying something unintentionally insulting), but there is a hell of a lot more to Pits than just good skating. I hope you get to appreciate it as the season goes on, he's a special player.

Is there a schedule for other games shown, like the Flyers-Montreal game, through Yahoo?

It is extremely rare that I get to a game so positioning and play away from the puck is not something i get to observe. I'll have to do what TV iso I can do and see what I am missing. Maybe I am wrong and everyone else is right, it's been said before. 'Preciate the non insult.

erm... really?

i think the goal against Boston last year from Forsberg pretty much sums up why Pitkanen is so special, you can see it here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yp0EgfCl2M

there are a couple of things about that i love about this goal.

1) he went from blue line to blue line at unreal speed.

2) that shot was sick, upper corner far side in tight.

then there's the shot he wired in the Rangers game last year that was pretty damn impressive:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OqI3Rkt1xc

anyway... if you don't see it, you don't see it. last year i thought he was our most dominant player prior to his abdomen getting torn up.... more dominant than Forsberg. he's all over the ice, he rarely gets beat back to our side when he goes on a forray... he's an unbelievable passer when he's coming down the boards from the point (Calder should of buried one of those passes against Montreal). he's arguably the most dynamic dman in the Eastern conference at the moment, though he's admittedly not the most refined.

if nothing else, the fact that he's probably capable of getting a ppg in the NHL as a dman should tell you that he's pretty special.

Probably capable?

As above, I'll watch more closely.

if he hadn't gotten hurt last year, i think he would have been in the 70+ point range. as it was he had 46 pts in 58 games and wasn't nearly the same player when he came back as he had been prior to the injury.
