edit: I just did a cursory review of the AHL score sheets for Houston games from last season (about 20-games), O'Sullivan appears to have accumualted quite a few points on the PP with Law, Westrum and to a lesser extent Volschenko...

I noticed he missed the last game.

Anyone know the reason?

From today's LA Times:

Anze Kopitar has burst on the scene, but Patrick O'Sullivan, the Kings' other high-end rookie, has labored. He watched the game as a healthy scratch Saturday.

"Whether it's work ethic or energy, it's something you have to have at this level all the time," Crawford said. "I love skill. There may be no one in the NHL who loves skill more than me. But you can't have skill unless you work."

link: http://www.latimes.com/sports/hockey...orts-nhl-kings

What I find a bit off with all of this, is that in the first game against Dallas, Crawford gave O'Sullivan the most ice time he's seen to date and more time on the PP than Cammalleri. I think it was Tubby that pointed out in another thread that Crawford seems to have a strange reward system going...

"You can't have skill unless you work"

Think about that... of COURSE you can have skill and not work... that's what's called the classic UNDERACHIEVER.

But, in O'Sullivan's case... he's WORKING... and he has SKILL... he's not underachieving, he's just not produced tangible results so far (and not many Kings have...)

For Chrissakes, he led the team in shots against Dallas on Thursday, and took a couple that NO KINGS FORWARD would have even attempted in recent years.

For this, he is benched. DUMB DUMB DUMB.

Do we know what is going on the practice (cue the Allen Iverson sound bite)?

AM did the same thing with Cammy early on because Cammy was not giving full effort in practices. Maybe we have the same situation.

So what's the deal with him now? Is he expected back on the roster, or more bench, or demotion?

The plan is to have him sell oranges and roses at one of the exits on the 110 until his work ethic returns

He was assigned to the Monarchs (AHL) at the beginning of the month. He's playing plenty there...

Is it time to be concerned(not panic) with O'Sullivan? Do you think his head will ever catch up to his skill level to make himself a good/great NHLer one day? I have a little doubt and I'm not as optimistic as I once was. I don't like hearing about him "floating" in Manchester. He should be busting arse to get his rear back to LA, doesn't sound like he is doing all he can.

Despite reports of his "floating" he has 13 points in 14 games, and is getting shots on goal in abundance. His style is his style. Does he need to make changes? Sure. Will he? Probably. Am I worried? Not in the least. The guy is a skilled hockey player and if not with the Kings, then with someone else, O'Sullivan will have a prosperous NHL career.

His shots mostly suck in terms of quality and velocity. A fair number of them are weak, backhanded efforts, coming off the right wing boards as soon as he approaches pressure from defenders. He's just throwing stupid stuff toward the goal...

Not unlike much of his work here in LA prior to demotion, but I'm still believing that he may not be a human highlight reel (ala Kopitar) but he's got a knack for offense and part of it comes from his consistenly trying to keep the puck moving towards the net. I'm not a hater like some. I think he's got the goods and will have them in the NHL for quite some time.

I hear you Tubbs and hopefully you're spot on. I just have some concern that he isn't the player we think he is. At this point, I see him more as hype than talent. Time for him to show the goods, it's not like he has a lot of competition from top 6ers in LA. I know he's young but, come on, give the effort pal.
