I say no. They'll roll on strong and finish 5th or 6th.

I would be very happy if they did not as that would mean the Canadiens would have a very steady season. But since it is only 3 games into the season it sure is possible it could happen!

If not 8th they'll maybe finish 7th. I just hope thay make the playoffs and play the Devils in the 1st round. I'll be sleeping on de la montagne in order to get my hands on some tickets to watch my Devils CRUSH "les glorieux"

Well we have two great goaltenders who can give us a chance to win every game. Bad goaltending + injurys made us take a dive in the standing last year. The way abby is playing and the way huet is capable of playing, I really dont see how we could take the major slump we had last year. In my opinion we have the staf to make us a contender all the way. It depends how lucky we get on the injury front this year. If we avoid those long term injurys we can certainly put up points on a weekly basis.

Not that i want to be negative but i voted yes.

I think that our main problem this year is going to be inconsistency. With guys like Kovalev and Samsonov on our top 2 line it's bound to happen.

I think that we are definitively going to make to playoffs but i see us dropping below 8th at least one time during the season (not by much though , i can't see us getting lower than the 10th position.)

Let's just hope that i'm wrong

I think the Habs will hover between the 4th-6th spot for the first half of the year before settling down in the 6th-7th spot to end the season.

Hmm, I saw the Leafs score 6 goals against Brodeur last night. Seems the Devils aren't invulnerable.

Before the season started, I predicted the Habs would finish 6th in the East, and 3rd in the Northeast. This was before Ribeiro was traded for Niinimaa, and before Latendresse joined the team. 2-0-1 isn't a bad start for us, but last season we went 13-3-3 before the wheels fell off the wagon (thanks in no small part to Theodore). I'm not saying Huet or Abby will repeat last season's Theo blunders, but it's far too early to tell what will happen.

Well I had us for exactly 100 points before the season started. Can't say for sure which spot that would get us.

Unless Carbo pulls a Julien and goes into the "No forechecking or trying to score goals" mode, and Huet/ Abby don't pull a Theo, we should be alright.

It's a long season. Sure, odds are we'll probably dip below 8th at some point, howsoever temporary that hopefully is. 15 teams in the conference, at least 10 of them probably dipping below 8th at some point, so the odds ought to be better than 50%...

I am scared at the fragility of our team. Imagine only ONE of the following headlines:
"Koivu injured"
or
"Markov out for 6 weeks"

I cannot imagine something close to a winning record without either of these two.

The season isn't like a school semester, where a midterm exam may affect the final grade. It really doesn't matter where the Habs are at various time points until, say, the last two weeks of the season. If the team is scrambling to get into the playoffs, the best players might have to be overused. On the other hand, if the team has a comfortable margin with about 7 games to go, the coach could rest these players for the playoffs.

Brodeur has about 1 bad game a year.... his was yesterday. I'm sure you would rather have Brodeur in nets than Huet or Abiescher

Honestly, I think Brodeur is overrated, but yes, I'd love to have him in Montreal.

A Canadiens loss accompanied by a Devils and Sens win and the Habs would fall to 9th, with games at hand mind you.

Very possible - there are so many capable teams - I think for a good part of the season several teams in the east will be in and out of the top 8. I'd love for us to be a 4-6 place team all year long and not have to flirt with missing the playoffs and I do think we're capable of being that kind of team.

Only time will tell - Go Habs Go
