Anyone else think it's no coincidence that the Habs ended the period with Downey, Lats, Begin, Komo and Souray on the ice? Guy was sending a message. Without Chara and McGratton in the lineup, the Sens would have a hard time coming up with guys willing to fight that group.

The Habs actually have a tougher lineup than the Sens tonight.

BTW - I didn't see Downey running away form Neil as someone predicted would probably happen.

As I've mentioned on a couple of occasions...he was hurt last year...you'll see a different Downey this season.

Samsonov can't pass the puck and Kovy does not want to.
Plek would be more comfortable on another line too.

When Begin on the 4th line has your best scoring chances and the most shots, you know there is something wrong.
I think this change would be more profitable for Pleks. No matter where Kovy plays, he'll play like that...

Oh man that's BS if it's official.

Why should Downey get the instigator. That's dumb.

Great period for Ryder, Higgy, Komi and Pleks!

3rd line also did pretty well as a whole!

Others need to wake up!

Quite the opposite actually. Downey went right after Neil and fed him a couple of good ones. Solid bout on both ends.

Not the instigator, he got 3rd man in most likely, which is absolutely what he deserved.

-We're not skating hard enough. Might be the stress of a 1st game, but I expect them to be much faster.
-It's great to see how confident Komi looks now.
-Higgins is God pure and simple. How many teams would love to go back at the 2002 draft, thank you Mr. Savard.
-Ryder is extremely fast now, if losing pounds helps you that much, I'll be riding the bike for the last 2 periods...
-Samsonov left his speed in Boston unfortunately.....
-Can't blame Huet on the 2nd goal it was all Souray's fault....again....
-But again, if Huet is not great positionnally he doesn't have Aebi's reflexes so you know he won't be that great. But again, besides the 1st goal, he couldn't do much. He'll be OK the rest of the game.

BUT WE NEED TO SKATE!!!!

Go Habs Go!!!!!

Ah, that would make more sense if they call it 3rd man in. I still think in a pileup like that it's hard to say. (I know I'm being a homer because he did come in after Begin was already in there, but still.) Anyways, good scrap, and good to see the boys stand up for each other like that. It's been a while and it's good to see.

Ryder's speed is blowing me away! I agree with the Samsonov comment, he needs to show us that speed.

The second line just isn't clicking. All the talent in the world, but no chemistry. And the fourth line is out of wack as well. I know it's going to take time, but Lats is a big reason why the fourth aint clicking.

He dosent have the speed....he got east west speed. Not north south. But he need to make passes earlier in the play. He seems to want to get in the clear before he makes a pass.

Samsonov needs to show up with SOMETHING...he's starting to remind me of Zednik. Taking the puck into the offensive zone and promptly giving it away.

According to NHL.com:

20:00 14 A. MESZAROS 10:00 Misconduct (10 min)
20:00 14 A. MESZAROS 2:00 Roughing
20:00 25 C. NEIL 5:00 Fighting (maj)

20:00 47 A. DOWNEY 10:00 Misconduct (10 min)
20:00 47 A. DOWNEY 2:00 Charging
20:00 47 A. DOWNEY 5:00 Fighting (maj)

No mention of a game misconduct, but if there is one, as other have reported, it could also be because Downey took a few shots at Neil with his elbow pad on his hand. Not smart.

weird..Cause the 4th line was probably the best in the first period.

If they give Downey the 3rd man in it's probably because he punched Neil while Neil was 'scrapping' (more like holding) with Bégin.

Guys, I just checked NHL.com

Downey got 2 mins for charging, not 3rd man in, he's not out of the game.

Bah-Alberta Habs Fan beat me to it.

Samsonov hasn't done anything others than losing the puck seconds after getting it...he is bad...You kind of wonder if there are only two players on the 2nd line....Kovalev and Pleks

I know - I debated with a poster here a couple of weeks back who contended that Downey would run away from the likes of Peters, Neil and McGratton, which I contended was horse hockey.
