Oilers Heritage Classic Games Day Thread

ok so it ain't Saturday in Canada, BUT it is in London which is where I am :p

Games day thread? yup coz there's two games the megastars game and the nhl game, i read somewhere the megastars probably wouldn't want to embarass each other, i think that's going to be true so expect an Edmonton 10-7 win.

As for the NHL game I expect Montreal to be up for it every bit as the Oilers and last year the game turned into a high scoring game and that's what I think will happen. Here's to an Oilers victory I say something like 6-4.

btw is the rink going to be smaller than regulation size or is it the normal size coz if its smaller expect more hits

oh yeah and anyone in London i'm going to the Maple Leaf Bar on Sunday 6pm email me at rabi_sultan@yahoo.com if you wanna meet up i am not visiting HFBoards tommorow as I don't wanna ruin the score.

GO OILERS GO !!!

I couldn't very well call myself Obsessed and not go to the biggest hockey event in history!!!

Go Oilers Go!!

Anyone know the surprise entertainment? Tom Cochrane was at the game last night... I hope they got someone decent like Nickleback. NO Shania mouthing the words ala Grey Cup!!

Anyway you cut it it will be a euphoric experience for one of the biggest Oil fans on the planet!!

I hope the Oil fill the Habs net!

AsiaOil asleep at the switch, R-S slides in there for the biggest regular season gameday thread of all time.

I think the guys will all play nervous for the first little while (weather permitting), noone wants to be the stooge in the highlite reel shown 'round the world for the next five years.

I hope both teams play very well and the Oil win an o.t. thriller with a highlite reel worthy tic-tac-toe play, Bergeron-Hemsky-Smyth. Francophone-Euro-Alberta boy. 3-2 Oil.

Can't express how impressed I am by this whole ordeal. Absolutely fantastic. Really glad to see it happening in Edmonton as well. Great energy coming from your city, and what a team, past and present.

I think the Oilers Alumni will double up the Habs 8-4.

I am pretty sure the Oil are going to win the game 3-2 or 4-3
Smyth, Torres, Staios scoring for the Oil. They all seem like cold-weather players...

the cold will bring out the mistakes.

7-5 Habs in the real game

who cares about the score in the alumni game, doesn't matter at all so long as I see:

- Kurri score on a one-timer from Gretz
- Fuhr lets one in five hole
- Messier bulls his way to the net
- Anderson off the wing
- Nilan vs. Semenko
- Lafleur blazing thru the neutral zone

I think it should be a high scoring game (real game). I think the hotter goalie will make a difference. Theo has proven he can win the Habs some games alot more than Conks although Conks has shown that he can make key saves at key times. I'll give a slight edge to the Habs here, but who knows.

For those going to the game, have a great time. I look forward to getting the scoop tomorrow.

I'm so psyched for this game... just getting all my gear together now.

You have no idea how cold! Basically, we are approaching the edge of the "too cold to play" area. The sad thing is that it's supposed to be really nice tomorrow!

Okay, I don't want to be a negative Neddy here, but the brass monkeys are getting nervous out there. I'm hoping all goes according to plan, but I don't want some legend losing a toe or some damn thing.

Hopefully the NHL game happens, they've been saying if the weather drops to below -20 they may consider postponing/cancelling it. I've been looking forward to seeing this game for months and I can't wait to see how the guys do in the freezing cold. I'm guessing that it's gonna be pretty high scoring since the goalies will be frozen solid....I'll predict a 7-5 Oilers win in this one.....

I think the players will be fine, they'll only be on the ice for probably a maximum 90 seconds at a time, then on to the bench with heaters. I played all the time outdoors last year wearing nothing but a t-shirt, a windbreaker a vest (a jersey over top for colder days,)and hockey gloves. Oh and pants obviously. I still have all my fingers and toes, so they should be fine.

Looks like Oates is not going to play. I was hoping they'd give us a nice little surprise.

Before there was artificial ice there were real men who befriended the cold. Today these same men will only get acquainted as they make history with thrills and chills. In my hockey HinterLand locale my grandson (he is only thirteen months old) and I went for a short 15 minute walk (he has stubby little legs) and played outside for awhile longer. We were wrapped up good and were warm and happy together. Life is what you make it and we choose to make it hearty and strong. So will almost 60,000 hockey fans at Commonwealth Stadium.

Yeah kinda funny aint it i start the thread for the classic and i wont even be taking part in it until 2days later
