How does Carbo determine the shootout shooters?

As much as I like Koivu, I think that he's a passer and is not particularly good on the shoot out. He seems to have the same moves.

I like that guys like Samsonov don't get a freeby and get to shoot if they don't have a good game but when he ties up the game, I think that he deserved a shot at the shootout last night.

There are also some other talented shooters that are not taking part in the shootout...and CH's shootout record is not very good.

This is an area that has to be addressed.

what about Ottawa? They put vermette, McCammond avec Fisher when they have Alfredsson, Spezza and Heatley..

they still won the game... so, even less talented players can score on shootouts.

And sometimes, it's better to put those players because they are not trying to do to much...

I use a dartboard.

As has been mentioned in other threads, I think a coach goes with his gut, who's hot in a game or maybe sometimes just a hunch.

I think coaches will also use their selection to reward a player or to send a message to a star who doesn't seem on their game.

Sunin uses the exact same moves all the time. As does a player for the Wild, whose name I forget.

They should just use whoever looks better in practice. Sometimes it's surprising who the better guys are.

Yeah the shootout is a complete coin toss. Some guys just suck at it. They could be great at scoring breakaway goals, but when it comes to penalty shots or shootout, they just can't do it.

Carbo

I believe the shootout was lost on Carbo shoulders tonight!! Home ice you get to pick to shoot first or second, He chose second???? You should shoot first and use your best player to put the pressure on the other team. This is what most teams do. Montreal should have shot first and used Kovy, but they used a different game plan and Kovy (Montreals best shoot out shooter) doesn't even get a chance!!

I think he should go with the best shooters period. This would include Kovalev. Shootout does not involve one iota of teamwork, intensity, playmaking ability, etc. It's whoever can snipe best on breakaways. Kovalev has bar none the best hands on this team.

And I do agree that Carbo should be choosing to go 1st when we have the option.

That's exactly what Carbo did to Kovy last night, he sent him a b@@ch slap and btw Kovy is 0-2 in shootouts to boot. The only thing I would have changed is to have Higgins, Ryder then Koivu shoot.

Peter Forsberg always goes five hole and it seems to work a high percentage of the time... you'd think teams would realize this by now considering what a high profile player he is.

With the way Huet play in shoot out, does it really matter who we are sending out?

I think that was to send a message to those other guys to start playing better.

RDS was showing the success rates of alfredsson, spezza and, heatley during shootouts.

I think each of these players was around 2 for 8.

That may be a reason why the sens changed it up a bit.

It's gotta be a magic 8 ball. Just that some names pop up more than others.

In that Avs game where Sammy shot, they were all booing him too.

Maybe putting guys who won't do much might score, I say the next time we go to shootouts we go with...Plekanec, Perezhogin, Kovalev(gotta take him in every shootout)

Mine would be Higgins , Perezhogin and Kovalev .

Extra ; Samsonov and Latendresse .

I suppose that sometime they feel someone is going to put it ; I also don't considere that Koivu is a good player for that role , but he was so hot saturday , that i would have choose him too ...
