Yah, I would like to know as well. I drafted him in my keeper league this year hoping for a steal. He is ineligable to play until December, I believe, but there were rumblings for a while that he was going to see how things felt and then let the Pens know but I have not heard anything in weeks.

He's back home in Slovakia, waiting for the birth of his 1st child and tracking his race horse.

i doubt that he would come back to the nhl since he was to much injured last year to play for the pens

Is it possible that "much too injured" was in fact "didn't want to be a part of that team"?

No. Anybody who watched Palffy play last year could tell something was physically wrong with him.

No, he's staying retired. There was rumor that he might come out of retirement but it's just that..rumors! and he has not stated eitherwise that he will come out of retirement.

dont you have to be retired for a minimum of 12 months or something once you file your paperwork? i remember Roy talking about this when there was false rumors of him returning top the NHL

Palffy hasnt been retired for 12 months so he cant return until then... and if he does come back would he be a UFA? or would pittsburgh hold his rights still?

Palffy cant come back till Feb 2007.. once you retire you must wait 1 calendar year... and yes, he will come back eventually... he stated in August he wants to come back and feels better....

I don't want to force it, but I'd like to resume my career."

"I miss hockey, though I guess so does everybody who retires. I could return to Pittsburgh in February, but they can trade me as well."

Pittsburgh would still hold his rights - the 3-year contract he signed would kick back in and he'd be under contract for whatever is left of '06-07 and all of '07-08.

Pittsburgh is in a good situation because if he does indeed return, and they need help in other areas, he would make good trade bait, that is IF he definelty is healing properly.... and if they keep him that aint a bad thing either... I believe he has some gas left in his tank..

Why somebody wouldn't want to be the wing man on the Crosby line is beyond me He signed there, so he obviously didn't have a problem with the organization. Face it, the only explanation is the one he gave, he's injured.

If Palffy returns and Malkin is half of what people hype him to be... the Pens could be a top 4 d-man and a couple depth players away from making the playoffs with ease (with ease meaning clinching a spot in the last 2 weeks instead fo the last 2 games)

Palffy woudln't throw away a 3 year, 4.5 million contract just because he's playing on a bad team. He's played on a bad in NY so he's use to losing. If he wanted to play for a contender, he would have asked for a trade.

Besides, anyone who watched Palffy play last season knows he didn't play like he used to. He was/is injured and, just like Lemieux, retired because he didn't want it to affect the rest of his life after hockey.

Article from Sunday stating Palffy has played one exhibition game recently in Slovakia and feels much better.

I cant argue with that... I am hoping the Pens have a good year.

Lines could be something like:

Ziggy Plaffy - Sidney Crosby - Colby Armstrong
Nils Ekman - Evgeni Malkin - Mark Recchi
Jarko Ruutu - Dominic Moore - Ryan Malone
Michael Oullette - Jordan Staal - John LeClair

Defense:
Mark Eaton - Sergei Gonchar
Brooks Orpik - Ryan Whitney
Kristopher Letang

Fleury
Thibault

I truly think that lineup could take some by surprise, depending on how quickly the kids come along. Just look at that strength down the middle for the next six or seven years at least.

I don't think his contract kicks back in. One of the reasons Lou was trying to prove that Malakhov "retired" was because his deal then would be null and void. I do believe, however, that the Penguins would retain his rights until the expiration of the original contract. Not sure about that part, but the contract was null and void the second Palffy's retirement became official.

Wouldn't it depend on whether or not Palffy actually filed the retirement papers?
