That one does for sure. Clarke made sure of that.

there is a difference between a no trade clause and not being allowed to trade them... a NTC can be waived and you can assume for arguements sake they would... but you cant assume a guy can be traded if the team is not allowed to trade tehm... it would be like trading to trade a guy who has filed retirement papers

Forsberg might waive his NTC clause?

I think it's implied in the speculation that if things get so bad that Clarke wants to deal Forsberg, things will be so bad that Forsberg might want to get dealt.

DING DING DING...It has happened before. What would a team want with Forsberg if they arent going to make the playoffs. Forsberg to Calgary would be a scary thought...mind you Forsberg to anyone is a scary thought.

What would be scary is the amount of salary Calgary would have to dump to make this happen.

Would it be that much? I think they are at 39 million or so... Foppas 5.5? so they'd have to dump 500k... probably a little more to be safe in case of injuries.

Foppa is 5.75; Calgary is at about 39, but that is without their injured players (Warrener-2.35 and Nystrom- 1.5).

So, if everything fits in place, they demote a couple of guys on 2ways, they're looking at being anywhere from 44-48 million.

No way Sutter wants his team within 1 million of the cap, so that means they'd have to dump 1 - 4 million. Sounds easy to do, but when you start subtracting that money (Hamrlik anyone?) it tends to open up other holes in the roster. Not to mention still leaving them with little to no cap room.

Obviously Brian Burke would win the sweepstakes.

Forsberg isn't going to leave the Atlantic Division. So...that basicly leaves NYR as the only destination other than the Flyers for Forsberg. My guess is he will resign with the Flyers or retire after the season. Clarke has no reason to trade him this year.

Assuming Clarke is going to continue to blow up the team, Calder would be the next big name on the list. He's an UFA, and the Flyers really don't have a place for him this season OR next. Downie and possibly even Giroux will join the Flyers next season and roster spots will be at a premium.

If they don't plan on resigning him, Knuble could also be on the list. Otherwise, he seems more than happy to finish out his career playing on a line with Forsberg and Gagne. Like Forsberg, I think he resigns with the Flyers for next season.

The rest of the list is Sanderson, Gauthier, Baumgartner, Robitaille, and maybe Meyers and Jones. Nobody to get excited about.

Flyers can trade Forsberg to acquire some assets, if they fail to make the playoffs, and then just resign him in the offseason.

Spezza-Heatley
Forsberg-Alfredsson

Forsberg is an UFA at season's end.

If Philly looks set to miss the playoffs, and if things off-ice there are as bad as they seem, I'd say it's highly likely he waives his NTC.

He has nothing to gain by finishing out the season there if they're set to miss the playoffs - at this stage of his career he'll want to be playing for the Cup. The Flyers have nothing to gain by keeping him when they could get some blue-chip assets in return.

Of course, Philly always seems to be in crisis, and always seem to rebound, so we'll see what happens.

Going back to the title of this thread, this "trend" will most likely continue in Philly because of who the GM is and who his assistant is and how they evaluate and choose the players in thier scouting staff.Clarke/Holmgren have compiled the worst team in the NHL and proposed trades or changing the coaching staff will not fix the trend. The Flyers are dead last in the league and will not make the playoffs again until their ownership parts company with Bob Clarke and Paul Holmgren(aka the duo of buffoonery). One third of their ownership is held by the founder Ed Snider, and he has sided with Clarke for decades. The changes that need to transpire that will help this franchise will never occur because of the relationship between Snider and Clarke.I must ask my friends who are Maple Leaf fans,do you all remember when Harold Ballard owned the Leafs? Remember seeing Ballard and King Clancey sitting in their executive booth overseeing the Leafs through their worst days? That's where we Flyer fans are right now.We know that this "trend" won't change until Snider sells his 1/3rd share (which will never happen) or he dies.

Again, isnt Forseberg a UFA after this season? Who is going to give up a ton of good assets for a 6 month rental?

Just look at last season where Hurricanes paid a pretty hefty price for a 6 month rental in Dough Weight, one that they knew they couldn't keep after the season, cup or no cup.

And considering how Weight is below a PPG player and Forsberg is considered by many as the best player there is, I for one don't think it's really that impossible that someone would pay a big price to get him come trade deadline.

Well, check out recent precedent:
St. Louis sent Doug Weight and Erkki Rajamaki last January in exchange for Magnus Kahnberg, Jesse Boulerice, Mike Zigomanis, a 1st round pick in '06 (used to select Patrik Berglund), a 4th round pick in '06 (used to select Reto Berra) and a 4th round pick in '07. Also in January, Chicago dealt Jaroslav Spacek to Edmonton for Tony Salmelainen.

Right around the deadline:
-Washington dealt Brendan Witt for Kris Beech and a 1st round pick in '06 (used to select Semen Varlamov). Washington also dealt Jeff Friesen to Anaheim for a second round pick in '06 (used to select Keith Seabrook).
-Pittsburgh dealt Mark Recchi for Niklas Nordgren, Krystofer Kolanos and a 2nd round pick in '07.
-Boston dealt Sergei Samsonov for Matt Reasoner, Yan Stastny and a 2nd round pick in '06 (used to select Milan Lucic).
-Minnesota dealt Dwayne Roloson to Edmonton for a 1st round pick in '06 (later traded to LA in the Demitra deal) and a 3rd round pick in '07.
-Florida dealt Petr Taticek to Pittsburgh for Ric Jackman
-Anaheim dealt Keith Carney and Juha Alen to Vancouver for Brett Skinner and a 2nd round pick in '06 (used to select Bryce Swan).
-Toronto dealt Ken Klee to New Jersey for Aleksander Suglobov.

All of the key parts in the first half of those trades (save Roloson) were rentals.

Dealing Forsberg as a pending UFA won't bring Philadelphia back as much value but they'll still get a decent return from a team lacking a legit top-line skilled center & looking to add another piece to put them over the top. Say, Atlanta, for instance.
