Has anyone been listening to team990 all afternoon? Regarding a rumour...

I went to go move my car at 5:30 and caught the tail end of Pierre McGuire on the Melnick show...I was wondering if someone could clear this up...Mitch said something to the effect of "I wonder if we should even bother to ask Pierre about the rumour out of Toronto..." and Pierre said to go ahead and ask. Apprently, Gainey is trying to get Lecavalier out of Tampa, according to the rumour, and Pierre said that anything could happen, especially since Tampa is basically capped out and stuck with St Louis and his NTC.

Anyways, that's all I heard to the effect of a rumour and I was wondering if this is something he had mentioned during his show this afternoon. If anyone knows anything about it I'd like to hear.

I think this will end up like the P.J. Stock rumour involving Malkin, but this could potentially be exiting!

We are almost maxed out with the Cap. What would Tampa want from us? Young players with low salaries. In other words, players we couldn't part with (aka Plekenec, Higgins, Ryder, Perezhogin)

It's believable but we'd need to get rid of 4million$ in capspace this year alone...Then we somehow need to clear some more money to try and sign Markov/Souray/Rivet/Niinimaa/Ryder.

We have 3m in capspace due to Bouillon being injured.

Like I said all I know or heard about the rumour is Mitch saying "Should we ask Pierre about it?".

I would imagine that it would be some sort trade involving some of our guys who are UFA to be. That way Tampa would have Vinny's contract off the books this offseason.

I know it's kinda taboo to trade UFAs you just signed (though Boston did trade Dave Scatchard last year and it didn't hurt them this past summer), but if Lecavalier is on his way in (not that at I at all think he is), then I could see Samsonov as part of the deal going the other way.

Something like Samsonov, Souray, and a top pick and/or top prospect for Lecavalier and a mid-level (worse than Souray) d-man.

But I don't really see it happening.

One would have to assume that Huet/Aebischer (more likely Huet) might come into the talk. We could also clear Souray/Rivet or Bonk's salary to get enough cap room to take on Vinny (more likely Bonk seeing as we are 1 man down in the backend).

I'll beleive it when I see it. I've learned that with Bob if you know something about a trade it's because it will not happen.

Unless you get a medical exemption (a la Mogilny) don't inured players count against the cap?

Boston also changed management significantly, which helped them in the offseason bigtime.

Anyways this topic isn't really meant to comment on the rumour but rather I just want to know if anyone was listening and can offer more information...Maybe mcphee, he's always listening to the afternoon show.

If someone has heard it other than Waffledave, let me know. Otherwise, this thread is closed, because we have already discussed the possibilities of Lecavalier to death in this forum
