If everyone would just stop thinking with their brain for awhile this makes perfect sense.

So far, over the past couple of seasons the Yotes have experimented with 35+ year old players with little to no success. Moving along to try out the 45+ crowd is a perfectly logical next step.

If this doesn't work a line of Bobby Hull-Jean Beliveau-Gordie Howe next season will surely take the team to the promised land.

I just don't see how this makes any sense. I think it makes more sense for the Coyotes to try and sign Yzerman. He still is working out and if plays the way he did in the second half of the season and the playoffs it could really help the Coyotes. He went on an 11 game point streak which was longer than any of the other players on the Red Wings. He still can play. The Red Wings just have a logjam at forward and don't need him anymore and that's why he's not playing this year. They wanted to go with the younger players. Anyways the Coyotes still probably wouldn't get to the playoffs, but he'd get them headed in the right direction at least.

If you need a center, why would you sign a 46 y/o who scored 1 goal when he last played three years ago instead of a guy like Yanic Perreault who scored 57 points last season?

That organization is just f-ed up. I don't think Gretzky/Barnett have a clue what they're doing. A fart in a windstorm has more direction.

Perreault, Allison, and Kvasha are all beter options if Phoenix is desperate for a center. Larinov was done when he retired, and I doubt he has undergone much rejuvenation since.

Good thing he chose to retire and not the team choosing and now he's the Red Wings VP.

on the jeers side you can see a blurb that addresses this rumor

apparently it was a joke between friends (Larionov and Smith) after Reinprecht went down with injury. nothing more.

Good point. Yzerman would not only lose his VP position, but he'd also lose his number retirement ceremony. He'd be giving up alot to play for another team, but then again he'd also have another opportunity to get his 700th goal.
