Robert Dome to Sweden

According to Aftonbladet, Robert Dome has signed with Södertälje SK in the Swedish Elite division.

http://www.aftonbladet.se/vss/sport/...393885,00.html

Last week the same team signed Lubomir Sekeras who was with the Wilds.

Very strange that Calgary never gave him a call-up. By all accounts, he was one of their best players in pre-season - lead them in pre-season scoring as I recall - and was scoring a point per game in the AHL on a less than stellar offensive team.

Meanwhile, Calgary can't buy a goal in the NHL, but they don't see fit to give Dome a shot to potentially add a little bit more offensive depth to their second or third line.

It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out. Dome is under contract to the Calgary Flames. He cannot arbitrarily decide he's going to go play in Sweden, he must honor his contract. When asked about the situation the Flames front office answered "no comment", which means they likely were unaware of the situation. I think that if you read between the lines it means that Dome has signed a contract in bad faith and that it is not a binding contract. The Swedish team/league that signed him must also tread lightly or face sanctions from the IIHF and the NHL in the form of cancelled transfers for player development. I don't think this issue is as cut and dried as some are thinking. I think the agent has tried an end around and may hurt his client in the long run.

Update... Dome has been reassigned to Sweden. That means the Flames can recall him without him needing to clear league waivers after coming back from Europe.

It's actually news, not a rumor or a trade proposal.

This swedish team never reveals a new player until it´s a 100% done deal, their standardphrase is always "no comment" when asked about new players.

We knew that they would sign at least one new forward but Robert Dome was somewhat unexpected.

Gainey should follow suit and re-assign Traverse to Timbuktu

In all seriousness though, I never knew a team can assign a guy to across the pond when the season started... Just thought it was rather interesting.

Hopefully it works out for the better in Dome's case.
