Best drafted american to never reach NHL

I'm thinking USA/Canada players

Not Europeans, cause a lot of players never even consider going over.

Is there any players who were thought to be great but injuries and stuff like that stopped them - and never played a single NHL game ?

Not counting the early NHL drafts where the best players weren't available, the highest-ranking pick who never made it to the NHL was Ray Martyniuk, #5 overall to Montreal in 1970. He got buried in a Montreal organization that was very deep in goaltending (Dryden, Vachon, Phil Myre, Wayne Thomas), then got traded to the Seals and was the number-three goalie in their organization for a while but never got the call.

Ryan Sittler, Darryl's son, went #7 overall to Philadelphia in 1992 and was a total bust, even at the AHL level. It was a weak draft class, but he still went much too early.

Michael Henrich '98 ( carrer AHLer )
Matt Zultek '97 ( ECHLer )
Stefan Cherneski '97 ( retired i think )
Kevin Grimes '97 ( ECHLer )
Jeff Brown '96 ( BISHLer ?!? )

Their name sounds euro but they are from North America . They are not the best but they are all former 1 round pick .

Cherneski shattered his kneecap and was forced to retire.

Tom Glavine. Of course he was "best" at baseball and not hockey.
