Markov, a possible 65+ pts season?

I'm talking about total upside. Last season, he had 46 pts in 67 games, which translates to about 57 points over the course of an 82 game schedule, and he started that year slowly, offensively speaking (though he was a god everywhere else) with 1 point through the first 10 or 11 games. Say he doesn't suffer through any injuries (we all know he'll get 25-30 min per game) and gets premium power play minutes, which he will, do you think he'll crack 65 points?
When was the last time any of our defencemen cracked 60 pts whilst being our best player in our own zone?

I'm not so sure about Markov hitting 65 points...if anybody I'd say Souray has the best chance right now. But I suppose if he plays a full 82 games, anything's possible. Regarding that quote though, are you really implying that Markov's been our best defenseman this year? Sure he's racking up assists but it's been one braincramp after another in his own zone.

True. I'm just saying that, brain cramps aside, he's usually our best presence at D because of his amazing stickwork. His mental toughness isn't that great but his mental game... I only know of a few defensemen in the league smarter than he.

Markov has not been engaged for 60 minutes on a regular basis this season. He was much better last year but it is only the first 7 games of the season. I know he will get better he was amazing last year.

Could he get 65 points yeah but he will need to
a) stay healthy
b) score at least 15 goals

If he stays healthy and keeps feeding souray the puck on the PP, I wouldn't rule it out this season at all.... can you imagine his salary demands after a 65 point year?

True enough and I am not worried about his play in his own zone. A 65 pt season is more then attainable for him and we might end up with 2 dmen with 55+ pts with Souray and Markov so that is always nice.

You won't see Markov get the points with Komi as his partner. He has not been the same since BG broke he and Rivet up last year.
I say, put Komi back with Souray now that he has develped into a better defensive player. Souray tends to eliminate his partner from the play because he can't pass worth hoot but Komi could help him out defensively. Maybe they would be a match made in heaven.
Both Markov and Rivet played their best hockey together. The chemistry was there for Markov who had played with Rivet since coming into the league.

He played with some enthusiasm last night and it showed. If the pp cominues to produce, sure he could score 65 ponits. Big if though.

He has a PPG so far. If healthy, He's gonna get 65+ easily.

Yes he can. I would say arround 60 and the guys for the Markov-Rivet and Souray-Komisarek is right. I love that idea since Markov and Rivet have played together last year very well.

For Markov's defensive plays, its not so bad at all. I like when he do a spin-arround for shift the guys, he have some brain-cramp but If a remember correctly last game he was doing some nice first pass and average-good in his own.

Anyway, Bob will sign him in the next 2 months, I think he'll got a 3 years contract for 9 m$. First: 2.8, Second: 3, Third: 3,2.

An average of 3m$ per years, may be I'll ask for something like 3.5 per year, I'll do that.

We need to keep Markov and Souray, they're good weapon on the PP.

65 would be a lil' bit high but it's still reachable. Our pp looks really strong...and I hope him and Souray will keep producing (his shot is deadly). 50-55 points would be a good prediction imo.

I think he can definitely do it, like others said, if the powerplay keeps rolling and he stays healthy. I'd love him to shoot more. He's passing more and more it seems, he's almost become the Kaberle of the Canadiens.

No way Markov signs for 3M$! Kubina got 5 MILS over the summer and Andrei's the best UFA defensemen available next year. He'll get at least 5.5M on the open market.

Markov will set a career high in points, and will ask for 5M$

the Habs won't be able to keep him unless they get rid of some other guys.

welcom to salary cap world

We have some highly paid guys on the last year of their contract. Unless Markov wants to leave, or asks for too much money, keeping him will not be a problem at all for Gainey.

I though Markov played is usual self the last few games.
He had a horrible game against Toronto but he's been coming into his own..

He did a few Savarian spinorama yesterday, that was pretty cool!

I agree with you. He did it twice. It was the first time I saw him doing that. Its just so a flashy and sweet move. Thought I was playing NHL 07.

Imo, what Markov hits will depend on how many goals we score during the year. If our offense keeps it on, he could hit 60 points. However, imo, he's more a 50 points guy.
