Modano

I figure he has got to be out of there soon, given the captaincy issue. Did anyone see the interview last week on CBC?

Anyways, he would be the perfect #2 centre. And he's someone I'd actually be willing to give up a quality prospect or two for.

Thoughts?

I thought it was Modano that gave up captaincy because he didn't want it.

Although his contract goes until 09/10 it drops for the final 2 years from 4.25 to 2.25.

So it is a possibility.

The cap hit is still 3.5 million(average over contract lenght).

If he were traded to Montreal for the final 2 years of his deal lets say would the cap hit still be 3.5? Or would it be 2.25?
I am pretty sure you are correct and it would be 3.5 but it could be a loophole.

Would love to have Modan on this team. He is big, fast, skilled and very solid 2 way player.

But we would have to give up something big to get him & his salary is probably rather large.

How old is he now ? 35 ?

Habs would have two #1 lines.

They would be serious contenders with Modano. He's big and strong with the puck and a playmaker who can score. He would be a great addition. The PP would be lethal.

Dallas is a contender this season, so it would be logical for them to trade an established top center for prospects?

if i remember correctly juste before Derian Hatcher became captain for the Stars, he was designed to be the one but he resigned...

Confession Time.

During the Habs darkest Houlian years, I had picked a little interest in the Stars.

I would love Modano or Zubov with the Habs.

Modano would give us a pretty boy (Does he still have the marvelous mullet?).

Plus, Zubov would become Bonk's hobo buddy.

well. that's decent. 3.45 cap hit, he just turned 36 and he's under contract until he's 40 (4 years). Well, I dunno how good he will be then, but we could get him if we dump some salary in return.

It's all well and good to try to win this year, but I don't think locking Modano up will help us long-term.

I'd love Modano as well, too bad we couldn't of worked something out with the whole Ribiero deal to get him instead. I doubt Dallas really wants to get rid of him though, is the captaincy thing a big deal in Dallas?

I think the media made it out to more than it is. All accounts that I've heard involve him being happy to not have the burden of responsibility anymore, and just be able to play his best to help the team.
