only thing he proved is he is no Messier, HA HA...as if we didn't know that already, usually when you make a prediction like that you should show up...

If you looked at the schedule at the start of the season to this point you would say that there has been 3 crucial games...games to send a message to the rest of the division, 2 against Buffalo and the Ottawa game...we are 0-3

next big game is Oct 31 against Ottawa...who cares if we can beat the Leafs or the Avs

If we lose against the Sens on Halloween Gainey should do the right thing for the organization and step down like Clarke did...we would be 0-4 in games that matter...this team appears to be going no where just like last year...

GO HABS GO

Joking or not, the Montreal media will not let him live it down for a while.

You say this from a perspective of intimate knowledge of the Montreal media?

It wasn't a big deal today in the Montreal media. It was taken as more of a joke than anything. So he may get a few comments, and a few laughs, but by the next game it will be forgotten.

No, I don't really know, but looking at TSN's homepage, it looks like he'll get a little flack for it for a little bit.

And why would I want intimate knowledge of the Montreal Media?????

Exactly. Before the game, I was thinking, "who cares." Right now, my opinion hasn't changed, regardless of the result.

The media likes to spin things whichever way they want, which is why they talk to players after games, even though they say the same cliches over and over again. Sometimes, a player will say something out of the ordinary, and it gets blown out of proportion.

A case in point was Robert Esche's comments last week about Ken Hitchcock. Apparently a reporter who was in the scrum said that he was surprised at the scrutiny around Esche's comments, considering that he kind of said it in a joking tone. Unfortunately for him, a reporter took it out of context and published it in the paper.

It wouldn't surprise me if Niinimaa made his comments in jest, considering that he is a loose and funny guy (I've met him a few times, and he is outstanding in terms of comedy). Unfortunately, Niinimaa is viewed differently because some journalist decided to take a non-blasé comment too seriously.

One thing that I want to say in general is that I hate when people throw around the term "classless." As fans of hockey, we have only the slightest clue of what actually goes on behind the scenes. In addition, we are also sitting behind the curtains of our computer screens. Calling someone "classless" on the internet often reeks of hypocrisy. I've seen it countless of times when people talk about our fans, and our team, and our players, and I'm quite frankly sick of the term. It may not pertain whatsoever to this thread, but I just had to get that off my chest.

This deserves a big "whatever". The Habs came out and competed without embrassing themselves against the runaway best team in the NHL right now.

It's a good thing that they're measuring themselves against the Sabres. This team should feel that they can beat Buffalo. Otherwise something would be wrong if they contented themselves with being confident against the crappy teams.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound harsh in my previous post. I just get tired when trivial things like this that are meant for fun get overblown on here. You know, HF-Habs forum overblows situations like this far, far more than the Montreal media does....

um, well he would of been right, and the omg part in caps, sounds like most people on hfboards, and the bow, well most people use it. So ya you're right, but same goes for any fans from any team had that happened, and if you don't think so, well that's too bad cause I am right

All I can say is from an Islander fan enjoy Janne
He will be your worst defenseman in two weeks.

Ask the Stars fan, they'll tell you all you need to know.

Anywho, the Canadiens are a great team this year. Huet looked a little rusty and it's still early.

The Sabres are amazing, my god. We have to play them Thursday, and frankly, were ****ed.

I still don't understand why TSN jumped on the story, while RDS barely mentionned it.

They showed the interview with him, but that's it.

TSN would never pass up an opportunity to take a run at the Habs...that's why...I agree with the others, it was made in jest and nothing else.

It was on the TSN front page and barely a peep of it on RDS's.

It wasn't overblown by the French media. It was overblown by the English media.

The French media actually treated the comment in the spirit it was made: as humor.

How often do you look around the NHL, at all your former draft picks who are premiere players, and bang your head against a wall?

Janne aside, it must be a crushing blow every day you look at other teams, and your former talent.

Wow! The media really turned this guys words into something they weren't. He hardly guaranteed a win. He was merely answering reporters. Give the guy a break.

exactly my point. Was he going to say "well, they are good. They do have to lose sometime though, I just don't think we'll do it on Monday. I think we'll lose."

They are just not used to being a good team. They were one of the worst teams in the league for a few years and now they like to be all cocky.

The comment was in jest. I saw the clip on RDS. Niinimaa is looking around, trying to find something to say, he ends up his sentence by saying that the habs would be the team that will stop the Sabre, and then he smiles.

Completely overblown.

Congratulation to Buffalo btw.
