The habs are not close to the same level of the Sabres.. The Sabres clearly have better forwards top to bottom, a better defense, and better goaltending than the habs.. That does not make the habs "close" whatsoever ..

And people also need to stop comparing the Sens of last season to the Sabres.. It was proven in the playoffs the Sabres have more heart and determination that the Sens.. Two things the Sens have lacked as a team.. In the playoff series between Ottawa and Buffalo, Buffalo proved they are for real and are not another Ottawa ..

If Buffalo didn't lose 4 of their defensemen against Carolina in the conference finals, they are the cup champion last year.. That's very clear.. I don't know why Habs fans feel they shouldn't respect other teams..

Just got back, some thoughts:

-Markov desperately needs to wake up. I don't know where the hell his head is but I don't think I've seen him play a decent game yet, and his gaffe in this one led directly to Drury's SH goal.
-Good to see Latendresse finding something he's good at: hitting.
-Samsonov and Plekanec looked good tonight, Kovalev was coasting (when he wasn't in the box).
-Koivu played a very bad game I thought, Ryder was okay and Higgins was working his *** off.
-If he ever has to battle for the puck along the boards, no matter where he is on the ice, Niinimaa will find a way to lose the battle
-Either Buffalo's really good at getting in the shooting lanes or we're waiting to long to shoot (both, I think). Rivet and Souray spent all game shooting at Sabres' shin pads.
-Johnson = still a god
-Huet was as good as he was going to be...we can't just play him cold against the league's top team and expect miracles. It doesn't work that way. But the first goal really killed us; we were all over them up until that point.

But overall, we just weren't getting the bounces tonight. If we had a breakout/rush, the puck would wind up in our skates. In front of the net, we just couldn't get the stick in the right place.

Let's not forget tonight was the 3rd game for the sabres in 4 nights.. And they walked into Montreal and won even being tired.. The habs were clearly more fresh due to having more days off and the Sabres still outplayed the habs in Montreal..

I don't agree that's it's anywhere near that clear. Isn't it the big thing about Buffalo that it is a team with "no superstars"?

The quality in terms of players is not that far apart and the two teams are built on similar blueprints. As it is, the Habs have looked good against the Sabres for two games now, dominating significant stretches, but the Sabres are on a roll -- and opportunistic as heck. The Habs certainly could have won game one -- and, one might say SHOULD have.

Like I said, what the Habs are missing are intangibles, and the opportunism. Once they pull it all together and can play consistently like the better parts of this game, they will be on a similar level.

Hey guys... I need some help from u... I'm buying my brother a Habs jersey for his bday... and was wondering which player I should letter on the jersey??

Markov?
Higgins?

Leaving out Koivu, who IMO, is too generic...

Well Higgins by far. New York native, a great player, and Habs future captain, you're sure that this kid will be Habs for a long long time so that jersey will be good for a long time that way....

the Habs scared the hell out of us Sabres fans for this game. Still a very scary team. Very possibly a 4 seed.

Man that Souray's got a blast.

Should be a good 6 remaining games between these 2.

no way anyone can say this sabres team can be compared to legendary NHL teams... but this is the best sabres team yet, and there has been some good ones. Outside of 0 cups, the Sabres have a pretty successful history.

Higgins , no doubt about it. Markov will be UFA this summer.

Good:
-Excellent start , the guys went out strong and played with discipline for the whole 1st period.
-Perezhogin had a monster night.
-Streit played very well.
-Samsonov was trying hard, i have no idea why he was sitting on the bench in the 3rd.

Bad:
-Markov played like crap , please tell me he's playing with an injury or something..
-Huet let in a couple of softies, last year he was giving the team confidence right now he takes it away
-Plekanec is not the same player than last year, he's terrible.

Ugly:
-Lack of physical play, are the guys afraid of Justin friggin Peters or what ?! Jeez show some character. Seems like most of the vets took the night off wich is really dissapointing.

I'm watching Canadiens Express and Markov was far from horrible tonight.. he played a good game but had 2 or 3 brain cramps..

Maybe horrible per Markov standards...

A forlorn attempt to find a silver lining. It ain't there. The Sabres have nothing to fear from the Habs.

Markov is to Montreal what Chara was to Ottawa....He'll probably leave if he's offered more money elsewhere, which I think is the case.

Give credit to buffalo for being so opportunistic. And I have to say it, once again Briere pulls "The Fake" on that "slash" by Kovalev. Not only does he dives sometimes, but he also fakes his arm being torn apart by a one handed stick tap!
Watching the game in the states, they had a shot of Briere's hand on the bench, and it was spasming and shaking pretty bad after that slash... no acting there, that one really hurt him.

Sorry... didn't get far enough to see this was already dicussed...

Most of aren't as cocky as the few that came here tonight to wage war on you all.
Sure, we have more confidence than ever, but please don't make a generaliztion about Sabre Nation from the few fans you've encountered.

Here is to 6 more Habs-Sabres clashes this season
