CHI-VAN prosposal

To Chicago:
Matt Cooke

To Vancouver:
Brandon Bochenski
2nd round pick ('07)

I don't have the best comprehension of Chicago's depth prospect wise, but I know Tallon is obviously looking for roster players, and said he wouldn't give up NHL players for them, just depth in prospects...Cooke's salary is out of the way, the Canucks can put Bochenski back in the NHL, see what he can do, and have a mid 2nd round pick...

Sure, I'd do it...but I don't think Chicago would give up a R2 in that deal.

How about we trade you your 3rd round pick back instead of the 2nd rounder.

Wasn't Bochenski waived a while back? If the Canucks wanted him they probably would have picked him up back then.

If he wasn't, then this may make sense.

Dont really want Matt Cooke. You can have Bochenski for a mid round pick.

Injury prone means that due to his body type or physical nature that he is prone to being injured frequently in similar manners

Cooke's injuries have all been accidents

No player is 'prone' to having the puck hit them in the jaw and sidelining them for months.

I pass on this deal as a Canuck fan. Cooke is our best playoff performer.

This deal is basically Cooke for a second rounder as Bochenski could have been had for nothing on waivers.

No thanks.

I would do the deal with or without Bochenski.

meh, cooke is worth a 2nd. Seems fair value wise if the nucks are trying to dump cooke. Depends more on how the organization values him.

Agreed. However, I think the Canucks would want more than a 2nd rounder to move him.

Not a chance. Unless you think we can pick up another 2nd line center. We have no one in the minors to call up. Well, I guess we could try Naslund-Bulis-Hansen...

We're a good team, we should make the playoffs and could cause trouble once there. Selling off players because you don't like their contracts will only make it harder to make the playoffs and harder to make an impact. I want to see the Canucks win, and dumping players will not help in that regard.

So, we should trade Luongo for a 1st?

It was slightly tongue-in-cheek, but honestly, it's not only that Morrison isn't living up to his contract. I would be frustrated with him at 1/3 the price right now.

you didn't hear? At the end of the regular season, the NHL is going to cancel the playoffs and give the cup to the team with the most cap space!

I wouldn't. Morrison at 1.05 million would be playing very adequately.

He'd be fine if he was paid like a 3rd liner, cause that's what he's playing like. But, IMO that has more to do with the fact that he doesn't have a scorer on his line, which a playmaker usually needs. So any trade should either replace him on the 2nd line, or bring in a scorer he can set-up.

Just because he's a dissapointment doesn't mean he isn't a useful player, and certainly doesn't mean we have anyone in the system who can replace him.

Adequate maybe for a guy with limited upside (ie Chouinard). But knowing that Morrison can be an offensive threat, I'd still be disappointed with him at that salary. I know, totally unfair to him. I'm just hard on him because I've seen him play well in the past, regardless of linemates, and he just seems like a shell of that player right now.

I would never argue that he isn't a useful player for us. In that regard, he's in a similar category as Kesler right now. But unfortunately for those two players, they're not going to be safe from scrutiny in this city until they start living up to the zeroes in their salary figures.

Totally agree, but scrutinizing them doesn't mean we ship them off unless it helps the team.

I should have clarified, unless Nonis is presented with a no-brainer trade, I don't advocate trading Morrison based on a slow start.
