Don't agree with asking questions like, "Who has the least goals against." I'd rather the players concentrate on playing and improving their position. Reminding them of the standings is good but the rest is crap.

I disagree. Mike Keenan used to be a big proponent of this. Saying things like it only matters what the Bruins do is stupid. They have to be cognizant of their situation...especially if it gets more dire. Hopefully it will create a sense of urgency.

Also, I dont think they just studied the standings all practice in lieu of practicing the PP or PK or specific drills. Is that *really* how you read this piece? That the team has foregone any thought of concentration on playing to instead just memorize standings? I think this was most likely a 10 minute part of practice....if that.

Pop quizes about where teams are in the standings, and who has allowed how many goals ? These guys need to be concentrating on what they are doing wrong and not what other teams are doing.

Maybe making them skate extra in practice, or a practice with no pucks might get their attention.

I saw the first period vs Buffalo, and other than those 2 crappy goals Hannu let in, I thought they played Buffalo even.

What will turn the season around ?

Goalies need to step up.
Fix the power play so that they score 1 more goal a game
Get everyone healthy.

That should do it.

Those are really the most important factors. Toivonen or Thomas need to make a big save to increase the teams confidence. The Power Play also needs to cash in on some opportunities. If that happens, Boston will immediately be a better team.

Of course! I think it's just an in-your-face reminder of how their play is affecting them. I'm sure they know it, but he's emphasizing in one exercise. Isn't it all inter-related?

"But if you look at the last two games, I think there were positives," he said. "There was the win over Calgary. Even the Buffalo game, I thought we started OK. Then along the way here we've lost some guys to injury -- [Brad ] Stuart, [Marco ] Sturm, [Mark] Mowers and [Andrew] Alberts. Those are legitimate losses.
"But you can't keep saying that after each loss, either, which is why I say I have concerns."

Is Gorto taking a shot at "Sully" here?

Hey KPD, thanks for the laugh today amongst all the typically depressing Bruins news:

Quote:
Toivonen reported to work with his golden locks severely cropped, in what would best be described as a boys' regular (circa 1963). "Just took some off the top," said the 22-year-old, who, sans his long hair, looked young enough that a truant officer could have been summoned to the rink's parking lot

For some reason I thought the daily reminder that Lewis placed in the room was going to be a life-sized cardboard cutout of Stevie Yzerman. (snicker)
