To Carolina:Brad Stuart, Brad Boyes , and either Marc Savard or Patrice Bergeron, and a pick.
To Boston: Mike Commodore, Justin Williams, and Eric Staal.
Canes get the puck moving dman they need and a couple of young forwards, the B's get a good steady stay at home dman, all round winger with speed and the #1 center they need.
Putting asside the fundamental impossibility of this deal (Canes are not trading their franchise center - especially not one year after they won the cup), you could basically drop Stuart from the deal. He is an impending UFA and the Canes just made a big trade to bring in Tim Gleason.
You can also drop Savard from the deal. Overpaid and the Canes did not show any interest in him when they could have gotten him for free this summer.
So, just for an academic exercise, attempting to balance it purely on value:
Bergeron, Boyes, and a 3rd rounder for Staal and Williams seems about fair to me.
Eric Staal, Ray Whitney, and Brett Hedican
Patrice Bergeron, Brad Boyes, and Brad Stuart + a 1st round pick and a 2nd roundpick
double hell no on the first one.
the canes have no reason to do this. if the canes were going into staals ufa year, and he already had promised them he wouldnt come back regardless of the money they threw at him, and all these players are the age they are now....then fine. i would so this second one.
