Gameday: Sabres at Panthers 11/24

GAME: Buffalo Sabres (9-9-2-1) at Florida Panthers (8-12-2-0).

TIME: Monday, 7:30 p.m. EST.

Steven Weiss has provided the Florida Panthers with an offensive spark since being recalled from the American Hockey League. The rookie center will look to continue his strong start and help the Panthers win back-to-back games for the first time this season as they host the Buffalo Sabres at the Office Depot Center.

Weiss scored the game-winning goal in overtime in the Panthers' 3-2 win over the Washington Capitals on Saturday. He also had an assist on the go-ahead goal with 2:53 left in regulation, giving him consecutive games with a goal and an assist. The Panthers snapped a three-game losing streak, improving to 3-4 since general manager Rick Dudley replaced Mike Keenan as coach.

Florida recalled right wing Juraj Kolnik and defenseman Grant McNeill from San Antonio of the AHL to replace Mikael Samuelsson (jaw) and Eric Messier (dislocated right wrist). Messier injured his wrist in the first period of Florida's 6-3 loss to Atlanta on Friday.

The Sabres are coming off a 2-1 loss to Tampa Bay on Saturday, dropping their record to 0-9 when allowing the opening goal this season. Mika Noronen, whose 1.76 goals-against average is third-best in the league, stopped 21 shots.

Buffalo is 0-for-28 with the man advantage since Nov. 7.

STANDINGS (through Nov. 22): Sabres - 21 points, 3rd place, 7 PB, Northeast Division. Panthers - 18 points, 3rd place, 7 PB, Southeast Division.

TEAM LEADERS: Sabres - J.P. Dumont, Taylor Pyatt and Ales Kotalik, 6 goals; Chris Drury, 10 assists; Dumont, 15 points; Andrew Peters, 66 PIM. Panthers - Olli Jokinen, 8 goals; Viktor Kozlov, 9 assists and 14 points; Darcy Hordichuk, 54 PIM.

SPECIAL TEAMS (through Nov. 22): Sabres - Power play: 13.5 percent (12 for 89), 23rd in NHL. Penalty killing: 83.6 percent (92 for 110), 15th. Panthers - Power play: 14.3 percent (12 for 84), 20th (tied). Penalty killing: 84.1 percent (95 for 113), 13th.

GOALTENDERS: Sabres - Noronen (4-4-0, 2, 1.76); Martin Biron (5-4-2, 0 SO, 2.78 GAA). Panthers - Luongo (6-10-2, 1, 2.43); Steve Shields (2-2-0, 0, 3.50).

2002-03 SEASON SERIES: Sabres, 2-1-1.

LAST MEETING: March 8; Sabres, 4-0. At Florida, Noronen made 29 saves for his first career shutout.

ROAD/HOME RECORDS: Sabres - 5-6-1-0 on the road; Panthers - 3-6-1-0 at home.

Sabres rebound after decent, if losing effort. Im hoping that Noronen begins to play more often. He has been consistent - a novelty, yes. I do think that Biron should play, as it is the 3rd game in 4 nights. Too many, methinks.

Prediction: 3-2 Buffalo in a squeaker, possibly OT. Briere and Weiss have big games. (Reminder: Darcy tried oh so hard to trade up for Weiss )

Hopefully Satan can get a point to get him going again...

If Satan can find his way out of hell and show up for a game for once, Sabres win 3-2. If not, Panthers 3-1.

I don't know what to expect. So I'll say 3-2 Panthers.

Sabres-4
Panthers-2

Satan finally scoares a goal. The Hecht-Briere-Dumont line looks good once again, and Pyatt starts to wake up.

The team works and grinds out a victory.

Buffalo with some big chances. Luongo makes the saves.

Florida with some good chances. 2 slip by Biron.

And that's how it goes.

And thanks to Adelphia, I'm going to miss a large portion of the game.

Though I guess I'd rather stare at a black screen than watch them get manhandled by the lowly Panthers.

They're surging now and actually manhandling the Panthers in their own zone. Too bad they can't sink anything or actually finish. We just need one to go in to crack Luongo and see what happens from there.

Luongo owns the Sabres.

If Adelphia doesn't have this back on by the start of the 3rd, I'm going to riot. $38 a month for basic cable and it constantly cuts out. This is the worst-run company ever.

Are you sure about that? If it's true it's surprising. I remember several occasions of him looking Vezina-like versus the Sabres over the past few years.

How come we give up point deflections about every single game, yet we score none of our own...ever.
