Only $700K? Wonder how the Sens got outbid on this one. Wasn't Muckler offering like $1M?

i think muckler just decided he didnt want him. I heard an interview on the team 1200 and it pretty much sounded like he decided he didnt want to sign perreault and he wanted to wait to see who else will become available.

The Senator's broke of talks because they didn't want to give him the one mil, then he goes and takes 700k from the Coyotes. I think I also remember part of their thought process being "The team is starting to turn the corner so we probably don't need him anyway". Oh well.

Sens made one of a heck of a mistake by non-signing him. If they think they can have better at deadline, I wouldnt except that.. it always finnish that Sens acquire deadline bust .

Perreault would have bring experience and offensive depth to Ottawa Senators. Solid 2nd line centre or at least pretty good 3rd line, and he can play on the PP easily.

He is still the best faceoff man in the league and he do well in playoff.

In a way, i am happy Muckler didnt sign him so Habs wont have to play 7 more other times against him this year.

Good luck in the Desert, Yanic.

Thank you Phoenix!

I'll take the cap space thank you very much, Muckler's record at the deadline notwithstanding. Two serious injuries on the blueline and our needs will change very quickly. I'd rather not be held back by his contract if they do.

Ditto. I was never a big fan and given our team's makeup right now am rather glad we passed on him and any extra salary he would bring. We have enough bottom-six centres. And Spezza has picked up his game along the boards lately just as he did in last year's playoffs. By season's end I'd be fine with him as our #1 centre in April even if I'd strongly want to see us acquire another pivot to play behind him (and he has to be good!). So it's quality top-six material or bust down the middle as far as I'm concerned. Fisher may be the best #3 in the NHL and Kelly is great on the 4th line. Vermette can center a checking line if needed. Same for McAmmond even if he seems to be primarily playing on our scoring lines (deservingly so mind you). We don't need another skater on the bottom two lines.

Face-off ability aside - even if it seems we're always in need of it (credit to Spezza again; he's improved there too) - I'd rather give that ice and opportunity to Kaigorodov. If for nothing else, he has some very intriguing upside for if he can adjust to the North American game.

Agreed, if you want to use the argument that we have never had a deadline deal work out before, then you have to think that Perreault would be much of the same. I dont see him being any stronger than Smolinski, and thats not a good player to be measured beside. Sure, hes much better on the dot, but hes actually weaker, and we have no idea how he would fit on our team. This was a big no from the beginning for me.

Here's the thing:

The money that we would have spent on Pereault can now be saved and put towards aquiring Joe Sakic or Mike Modano at the trade deadline in March

May as well throw in the Conroy idea as to why Ottawa backed out of getting Yanic.

Muckler acquire something meaningful at the deadline? That'll be the day...

Thank God we didn't sign Perrault. Other than faceoffs, this guy is washed up and useless. Trust me on this one my fellow fans.

He would have been a good addition to Ottawa.

He's a liability defensively and we already give Spezza enough of a rough time in that area.

I would have been sad had we picked up this guy. We already have 5 bottom #3/4 C (Fisher, McAmmond, Vermette, Kelly, Kaigorodov) we need a #2.

That Mike Fisher character looks pretty good.

We should pick him up.

The HF fans of his team overrate him. They'll ask for 5 first rounders or some other such nonsense.

That Tyler Arnason guy looks intriguing. Bryan Smolinski looks like a good potential trade dead line pick-up.

Mike Ribiero is one of the most memorable playoff "performers" out there. Let's get him.
