Another reason why Atlanta is playing well is their defense which is the best group of defensemen Atlanta has ever had.Greg de Vries,Steve McCarthy(who is finally living up to his potential after getting booted out of Chicago and Vancouver),Niclas Havelid,Andy Sutton,Garnet Exelby,Vitaly Vishnevsky and Shane Hnidy. Not a #1 or #2 or #3 defenseman in the group but as a unit the sum of the parts is greater than the parts. Also Marian Hossa and Ilya Kovalchuk are playing terrific hockey

Lehtonen is the key

The Rangers are built in a similiar fashion.Same type of defense, two big guns up front with Jaromir Jagr and Brendan Shanahan plus the European goaltender

Having realized that point, I am praying that Tom Renney has some good sense to him and does NOT start Kevin Weekes tonight.

It's definetly going to be Avery Hollweg tonight. Probably two of the most hated players around the league and by the refs.

Pock and Dawes to sit again great way to handle youth, he wont trade them or play them

http://rangers.lohudblogs.com/2006/1...k-to-the-well/

Of course, this would mean that both Nigel Dawes and Thomas Pock could sit again, and Renney acknowledged he’s concerned about getting both ice time.

In other words, auditions are ongoing.

what i also understand is why not sit Hossa, its not like he is producing, why cant we put Dawes on the PK. He played the PK in the AHL, and I know the NHL is alot faster than the AHL, but at least give him a chance.

t-man dynamic,” Renney said.

Why can't that be enough for you?

Did you watch Pock when he played? The best thing you can say about the guy is he is young. He isn't very good and an Ozo Pock pairing would be a nightmare for the Rangers..

Does anyone know

If Sam made the trip out West to do the rest of the games out there?

I had the priviledge of using my jog/toggle button on my VCR which sped up the Coyotes game to a fast version without hearing Mr. i-have-no-idea-what-the-hell-i-am-watching Crispino.

I really dont want to hear him tonight. Its a true disservice to Ranger fans to have to listen to this guy do play-by-play... I said it before the season started, the Rangers should have been more concerned trying to find a suitable backup to Rosen then getting a replacement for JD.

The guy is absolutely HORRENDOUS. After seeing him on channel 4 one day i thought he had cut ties with MSG but i was very dissapointed to see him again the other night.

Why wouldn't Sam do the Rangers games this week?He did the Giants-Bucs game yesterday on FOX which is why he didn't do the Rangers game on Saturday night

I think Hollweg and Avery will get together at some point. Whether its a full on fight or just some pushing and shoving is another thing. But whenever Hollweg is out there, you know there is always the possibilty of somthing happening.

If you can't start Weeke's in a game against a non-conference doormat, when can you start him? Renney needs to start him for KEVIN'S sake tonight.

I guess I can't argue with the decision to roll the same forward lines tonight. I do, however, think "auditions" shouldn't just be for guys working their way out of the lineup, but also the ones trying to work their way back in. It's a lot easier to bench a player who's playing like garbage when you've got his replacement giving you a reason to do so.

I don't care of Henrik Lundqvist or Kevin Weekes in between the pipes, the bottom line is that the team
in front of either of them that starts tonight must play a solid game. Period.

From what I heard after watching my tape of the Coyotes game, Stan Fischler and John Giannone were discussing
the possiblity that Weekes might be sent to Hartford so he can get some work in and not get too stale.
Then again, I tend to wonder if he'd have to go through waivers though. If so, then you know that another team
would pick him up. So that's a catch-22 for the Rangers.

Everybody had have a lack of respect for how Phoenix has played so far this season, but Los Angeles
isn't playing any better. In fact, they're worse record-wise at 3-10 (including overtime/shootout losses).
However, that doesn't mean the Rangers take the Kings lightly. Too many times I've seen a solid game
followed by a letdown against a weak team. That would really make me irate. At the same time, CRUSH THE KINGS!
There's a real jerk that's a Kings fan (he knows who he is) that I hope witnesses his team suffer a nice defeat.

Ok fever

The Rangers will most likely send Weekes down to Hartford, he wouldnt have to clear waivers because it would be a conditioning assignment.

Thanks for clearing that confusion up about the waiver rules in Weekes' case, HockeyBasedNYC.
Fischler and Giannone had said that if Weekes was sent down that the obvious choice in a callup
would be Al Montoya. Like we didn't know that! LOL.

Weekes is going to get a start between now and next week. We have Anaheim, San Jose and Buffalo coming up after tonight, so I'd prefer to see Weekes in net tonight. I don't want to see Avery running our best players, so let's not play with skirts on tonight like usual.

The Kings have outplayed their past two oponents but have come up short both times. So it should be an interesting game.
