Even though Hossa hasn't had the offensive stats to show it, I think he has looked much better than last season. He seems to be starting to use his size and strength and is winning puck battles along the boards. I think he has had some really good scoring chances also, but he just hasn't burried one yet. Right now I think Renney wants to see the effort from Marcel game in and game out and figures eventaully the scoring will come.
Plus he's done some solid work on the PK which is something they don't use Dawes for.
Personally i think thats one of the major if not only reason they continue to play him.
But hes got to start putting some points up, he does play offense.
the problem with Betts isn't Betts - it's Sather. He went into the season without a second line center and now a guy like Shanahan is in a checking role, instead of an offensive role. They've been good defensively, but I don't think Betts has a point since (he still has one goal, one point in ten games). Could Immonen fill his shoes? Absolutely not. Can Betts still play on the PK while being a fourth liner? Yes. Should Immonen be playing at ES with Shanny? Absolutely not. This team doesn't have a first line center and only has Nylander as a second line center.
I'm just curious who you think the top 6 forwards on this team are.
That is actually one really hard question. There are checkers on scoring lines and no real #1 center, some promising players are underperforming and the actual lines change every game. What do the diehards on this board think?
Jagr, Nylander, Straka & Shanahan are locks...
The last two... Prucha and Cullen/Hall/Ward??? You tell me.
