A proposal with the Oilers possibly?

There was a suggestion from a poster at oilfans.com.......

TO PHI: Shawn Horcoff, Jason Smith, Brad Winchester

TO EDM: Simon Gagne, Joni Pitkannen

Now I'm assuming you guys wouldn't be to crazy about this, but let me know what you think, and why

That's bad. Really bad.

Pitkanen should be untouchable at this point. He's pretty much their only legit top 4.

If you're assuming we wouldn't be crazy about it then why did you post it? That package wouldn't get one of those guys let alone both of them. Shawn Horcoff needs to prove that last year wasn't just a hot streak for him, because he isn't the same player. Jason Smith, yeah he's a captain, would leave a big hole on the Oilers, but he is old enough that it's not worth giving up the offense Pitkanen provides. Brad Winchester, I like him, but I've seen similar Oilers prospects come up and not be anything special.

I posted it because I don't know exactly how Pitkinen and Gagne have been doing, and what the general consensus would be. In case you didn't already know, ALOT of Flyers are rumoured to be part of some upcoming blockbuster, possibly in the very near future, so I thought you may want to hear what people are saying about the Flyers, as i don't like being ignorant about my favorite team.

The only positive thing about this trade is that the Flyers shed some two million dollars in salary, but that's not even an issue right now. As for the cons, our defense gets older, our forwards less skilled, and our chemistry takes another hit. It gets an "F".

This review is rated G.

Pitkanen is not someone the team should even think of trading at this point. Read: untouchable. Gagne, though his salary is high, cannot be traded at this point. The team doesn't have enough reliable goal scorers.

terrible trade for the Flyers. Someone has been drinking way to may Molsons, or Yuenglings to come up with a ****** trade proposal like that. Jesus are people intentionally trying to come up with bad trade proposals? Good God allmighty.

If I was the GM of Philly and Kevin Lowe called me with this proposal I'd reach through the phone and slap him in the face.

Oh how I wish this could be a real trade.

I think this was just the initial offer from EDM. The actual deal is Gagne for Winchester and Horcoff. The Flyers want somebody big to play with Carter.

Yeah umm, no way that deal is even being discussed. I don't care how right your "insider" has been, that's a brutal trade.

I agree this trade isn't close to good value-wise (and I'm an Oilers fan), but why is Shawn Horcoff anyless proven then Gagne? Both had career years last year playing with great talents (Forsberg, Hemsky), the only difference is only one is still playing on that same line.

I still think Gagne > Horcoff, but I don't think saying Horcoff has to prove last year wasn't a fluke is exactly fair, especially since he had that great playoff run as well, and about 2/3 of his points on ES.

Pitkänen is the only piece in our organisation that could currently attract the interest of the Oilers, as they still search a replacement for Pronger.

With our thin defence, and Sniders word that none of our young guys is going anythere, Pitkänen is untouchable.

With that said, I don't think there is any chance for a trade between Edmonton and Philadelphia.

Laughable deal really, probably the best two players are pitkanen and gagne.

And what do they get back? Older bit pieces. You need character/role players to go with stars or offensive weapons, true.

But this deal is funny.

Now if it was something like: Hemsky and Jason SMith and Horcoff, that would be at least be a believable "guess what I thought up on the way home from 2nd grade"

Christ if Edmonton tossed in a 1st rounder it still would not be enough for Pitkannen on his own IMO

Gagne has proven far more than Horcoff. He is better offensively, and he is better defensively. Gagne has at least had good years before, Horcoff has to prove his wasn't a fluke. 5 points in 11 games right now, he has some work to do.

The worst thing about the Flyers record this year...

Is all these dumb *** proposals. I wouldn't trade Pitkanen for Jesus Christ, let alone the players mentioned in this thread.

I think Jesus Christ would be a nice addition at this point...he can pull some miracles out there w/ the puck...

How about Gagne for Ryan Smyth??

Hmm...maybe if the Flyers added like Carter and a 1st rounder...then it would be even.

Or a top-flight defensive prospect or two. But I doubt they have any of those that would make this worth Pitkanen alone.
