Mike Johnson.

Get him signed for another 2 seasons already.

I know Bonk is playing very well lately but Johnson has something to do with it. Johnson makes everyone around him on the ice look better, he's great defensively and also has good offensive instincts.

Definetely the best off season pickup/trade!

MJ definitely is a work horse...u will rarely see him give up on a play or get lazy on the ice...other players are definitely going to feed off of that!

I really can't believe we had him for a 4th round. Barnett as done some weird moves in Phoenix. I'm sure he would have done better than Nolan, Roenixck or LAraque.

He's still the GM? Let's go grab Doan for a 3rd

MJ is the perfect 3rd line winger. I hope he resigns but doesn't want too much of a raise. Our cap will be filled next season, no question. Just how many UFA will return and which will be replaced by rookies remains to be seen.

Go Mike!

He's a different player than I expected. He's a lot more intense than I thought. He seems to want to have a specific assignment, rather tahn just be a river skater. I did think he was maybe more of an explosive skater than he is, but I was probably thinking about what I saw 5 years ago.

I like the idea of having players that the coach can trust to do a job. Bullis could do everything Johnson can do, he just didn't seem to take the details as seriously.

Johnson is the perfect 3rd line winger. Gritty, defensive minded, offensively creative, isn't prone to brain cramps, team guy. This guy has Assistant Captain written all over him.

That's what I've noticed as well. Bonk and Johnson are quickly becoming players the team can count on on any given moment. They've recieved a lot of praise from fans but I believe the coaching staff thinks very highly of both. There aren't a lot of players who you can depend in the defensive and neutral zone who can also put the puck in the net, generate scoring chances and don't ask for the spotlight.

Johnson is a way better playmaker than Bulis and he has good hockey sense and ice vision. That's why he works well with everyone, he knows how to get the puck to a teammate and he always seems to be aware of whats going around on the ice.

MIKE JOHNSON :

1. is a very smart, versatile player
2. he really does improve everyone on his line (Latendresse, Bonk, even when Begin was with him for a shift or two!...).
3. very good skater
4. very well balanced...offensive/defensive, or defensive/offensive!!
5. great utility player
6. adds so much depth to our lineup
7. he might end up being our most UNDER-rated player this season
8. he is not injury prone (averages 75 games/season )
9. great character, great attitude, hustles all the time, team player...
10. bonus part!!..apparently he is a huuuuge Hab fan (also his dad), even though he's from Toronto
-------------- ----------
Thank-you Bob Gainey for acquiring Johnson, and thank-you Phoenix .
Sign him to 2 more years.

Johnson is a lot better then I expected, he's by no means a band-aid like many thought when we acquired him, I'd like to him signed for another 2 or 3 years deal after this year. Definately a great player to have around.

Didn't really know what to expect from Johnson having barely seen him play prior to the trade... needless to say, he's been a welcome addition. Such a reliable guy on the ice, would love for him to skip free agency and stay.

do you guys think he'll test the market? I know teams would be interested and he can probably get 2.5 mill. How much would Bob be willing to give him?

I'd like to see a 2 year/4 million type deal.

Agreed. And I think Samsanov will pan out really nicely now that he's on a line with Perez. I'm so happy they made the sammy-kovalev-perez line. It's such a killer line. I'm sure if they continue to perform the first 2 lines will stay the same all season.

I seriously think that gainey will offer him an extension at the end of the year.

Johnson is carbo type of player IMO, so gainey will do anything to have it.

And god does Johnson make nifty passes.

They should try him out at centre between Downey and Begin, since Johnson's most effective between two big nuts.

Johnson has been nothing less than incredible. I really like seeing him and Bonk on the PP every once in a while, when the other guys are struggling. I believe Bob will be warrented in signing him for 2-3 years at 1.9-2.2 million perseason.
