Game-day Thread: Oilers AT Columbus

Less than 24 hours to go... Any bets on lineup changes?

Is it time for Valiquette to get a start & rest Conklin, or does he need to get right back on the horse after one of his lesser outings?

When does Semenov draw back in?

Oates' first game???

I realy don't see Valiquette starting, but that's just my opinion.
I'd also like to see Semenov back in, and Oates won't start.

3-1 Oil
Dvorak, Bergeron, Torres (EN)

Nash for CBJ

2-3(OT) CBJ

EDM-Isbister, Pisani

CBJ- Sydor, Maholtra, Marchant(GWG)

game story: an overplayed and tired Conklin puts up a bad performance. Marchant pulls the identical deke to his game 7 winning one against Dallas for the game winning goal, then gives Lowe a good old fashioned rasberry in passing.

Conklin deserves a rest after the week he's had. I don't see the Oil having alot of options. They cant expect him to play back to back and perform. Salo was overworked as well. Valiquette should get a shot.

A tired Conklin is better than Valiquette. Its not like we're going to play Conklin like this indefinately, Salo will be back soon (hopefully). Anyways, good luck to the boys.

4-1 Oilers; Dvorak (has the hot hands), Smyth, Brewer, Stoll. CLM; Sanderson.

We'll also hopefully see Semenov, who will get an assist. And fights Shelley to prove to MacT that he ain't no Russian push over and that not playing him was a very bad mistake . Right after that Ferguson scores a hat trick.... Alright its getting very late.

I'm thinking...
OILERS - 4
BJ's - 2

Goals by Smyth, Dvorak, Cross, and Pisani.
Goals by Nash and Epsen Knutsen...(is he still a Jacket?)

I would be happy if Hemskey had two shots let alone two goals. The again, at his shooting percentage, two shots probably means two goals.

Valiquette starts they'll want Conklin rested to play against Detroit and Colorado. Either this or he will play seeing as he's had 3 days rest. I hope to see Valiquette tho.

Oates starts against Detroit for sure he too I think wouldn't want to start with back to back games.

This game could go two ways, the Oilers can show charachter and go out and win or just spiral downwards after that defeat in the Classic. I think Brewer will be huge tonight to make up for the blunder in the Classic, York and Dvorak will continue to be impressive and I would think that one of them including Torres would net a goal. The Moreau-Smyth-Pisani line i don't think will do anything get Oates in here quick so Smyth gets off that line and Stoll will pick up an assist when Hemsky sets up Semenov.

Also Ferguson didn't look THAT bad in the Classic so i'd say that bergie or cross sit for semenov IF semenov plays tonight.

2-1 oilers
dvorak/york/torres,semenov/bergeron

and for the jackets it HAS to be marchant

No Oates quite yet, but very soon, and apparently no Valiquette ever, barring disaster.

From today's Sun:
I think pretty soon,'' said head coach Craig MacTavish, when asked when the newest Oiler will be making his debut.

"It could be (today), but I doubt it. It could be Detroit, possibly.

"We plan to get him in one of these games in the next four.''

Also:
Ty Conklin will start both games of the road trip. In fact, MacTavish says he'll start every game until Tommy Salo comes back.

"Not that we don't have confidence in Stephane Valiquette,'' said MacTavish.

"But Ty is a young guy and eager to get the minutes. The way he's playing, he's certainly capable of playing (a lot). I saw Fuhrsy play 75 in a row.''

I guess it is takeout pizza night. This game starts too early, 5 o'clock on Sportsnet. Todd Marchant and Ryan Smyth are my favorite veteran players and Jarret Stoll and Rick Nash are two younger player i like to watch. My prediction is Oilers 3 - Columbus 2. I hope Ty Conklin plays and does well too.

From the papers:

Conklin will start

Oates was skating in practice w/ the 5th liners, so very doubtful for tonight

Horcoff was skating w/ Laraque and Chimera

Stoll w/ Hemsky and Isbister...

Same here. If nothing else I think it's a low risk experiment. Stoll seems very capable defensively for his age, so he shouldn't hurt the Oilers in that regard. It's pretty much a reward for his early efforts...he DOES have 4 goals in only 8 games of barely 11 minutes per night.

I think Horcoff will do well where he's IMO more comfortable, he plays well w/ Laraque and Chimera.

I think that there is GREAT potential for a Stoll/Hemsky/Isbister line. Stoll has really had a nose for the net with all the rebounds, and with Hemsky's ability to move the puck - and Izzy's ability to take it to the net hard that could be a lethal combo!

Lets hope that Stoll and Hemsky can get Isbister on a roll. This guy needs to start earning some of that paycheque. Not a knock against him as I like him quite a bit but times a ticking.

IMO Colorado is a good place to start Oates. The Oil might need a boost to get by the Avs.

I will go with 5-3 Oilers

Smyth, Hemsky, Dvorak, Semenov (if he doesn't play then MAB) and Torres.

Come on boys, time to get start the post HC part of the season. no more distractions, just go out there and skate like you can! No one can keep up with you if you keep your feet moving.

BTW on a side note, I really like our 4th like of Chimera Stoll and Salmo. Those guys have been skating circles around teams and drawing penalties. Excellent forchecking line.

4-0 Oilers
Conks with his second s.o. of the season!!!

Smyth, Hemsky, York, Isbister

I also think that Oates will be in tomorrow and see limited ice time. The wings have an older team, so he may be able to skate with a couple of their lines.

Aren't the Oilers due for s mini losing streak? They've won 4 in a row, lost to the Habs Saturday. I say 3-1 CBJ. Hope I'm wrong.

Nash, Marchant, Spacek

York.
