Interresting stat we are at +/-0 on our PK we have been scored on 6 times and we scored 6 times!!
We are better on PK then on 5v5. Thats amazing.
We have a great team because we have the best PK in the league, we are 3rd in % 1st in shg and we are the only team close to +/-0 on PK so its clear that we have the best PK in the league.

Hopefully this continues, if the Habs are to take the next step as a team, they've got to be among the top %'s in special teams.
P.S - We shold take a snapshot of all the posts on this board when things are going good, so that we can remember how it was when things aren't going so well.
In recent games, we have killed off 5 on 3's holding off the Sens and the Canes...last year, we were dreadful on 5 on 3's...nice to see this year's group really taking some major pride in killing off penalties, and guys like Muller and Carbo getting some credit for it also!

I've noticed that when the Habs are defending 5 on 3...there's alot more motion between both defensman and the forward, when one shifts down the other move in unison, they're covering the cross crease pass while also shading the point man. They're playing it to perfection right now.
I remember watching Carbonneau as a kid during the PK and he was always in the passing lane with his stick, you're seeing alot of this with his players, sticks active
We're actually 3rd in PK in percentage but I agree our PK is gold so far...
We are however first in shorthanded goals which is why our PK is the best, not to mention we had to kill a lot more penalties than the two teams with the best PK percentage. The top two PK percentage teams have, respectively, one and zero shorthanded goal and both allowed four goals. We, on the other hand, have six shorthanded goals and we only have six powerplay goals against.

I have noticed over the years that a team that can't score on 5 on 3's rarely win. Be it in the NHL or whatever other league or tournament.
If the Habs continue to be so effective with a 2-man disadvantage, we won't lose many.
Don't forget Rivet's goal as he came out of the box against Colorado's, that's a direct result of a good PK. Sure it doesn't count as a PK stat but yeah..
Anyone else get extra excited when the habs score on the PK ? For me it beats any PP/ES goal. I love our PK !
If you look only at goals scored when the Habs are short-handed, would you believe that Rivet is a +4 so far this season?? He has been on the ice for 5 of our short-handed goals and only one of the PP goals against.
Higgins and Souray are +2 so far; Koivu and Begin are +1.
The pk is doing an exellent job and they rush the puck everytime. They don't give the other team time to set up and they force them to make mistakes.Carbo is DA MAN!
Being +/- 0 during the penalty kill is a pretty disgusting statistic. It really goes to show either:
a) Montreal's penalty kill and shorthanded threat is fantastic, or
b) The ineptitude of both our opponents' PP, and their ability to control the puck.
I think it's a combination of both, because if you look at who we dominate on special teams, it isn't necessarily the better teams.

I heard on TV that Higgins has more short handed goals then any other team in the NHL other than Pittsburgh. I think in and of itself spaeks volumes about what we're doing in terms of PK

Yeah... Jordan Staal has 3 (as many as Higgins). One of them was on a penalty shot.

I'd say it's (a)... our opponents are the same as every team's other opponents...we're not the only ones that play weak teams.
Now who, a month ago in their predictions, didn't have these last 2 teams as Stanley Cup contenders?
Boasting is easy at that point and we will know our rough patches through that young season, but that stat now sure helped me get through the day with an idiot grin on my face...hehe
Komisarek playing like we've been expecting him to for years. Pleks, Higgy, Saku, Bonk, Bégin all new religious devout followers at the Church of Bob where Pope Carbo is preaching every practice.
We have to be a Habs fans to get excited by a Penaly Kill unit.
There is a saying in Quebec City, they say you recognise a Habs fan because he applauds when the Canadiens manage to clear their own zone. I have observed myself doing it. I am not ashamed. So freaking be it! We are the best at it!
