Current Golie Stats - Garon#1 in the NHL, Cloutier is #37 (4th from the bottom)

According to the yahoo nhl stats as of this morning.

Garon leads the league in Goals Against Avg. category, and in
Save Percentage category

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/stats;_y...hU8XVQ9ld7vLYF

Cloutier is Number 37 in Goals Against Average or Number 4 from the bottom.

The numbers rarely lie.

Thank you for bringing up Cloutier. The guy sucks. I'm surprised we don't have more threads about him

So what you're trying to say is that "beach ball" Dan will continue to start in goal until his stats become better.

Then Crow will tell all the Kings fans "I told you so" we have a nice two goalie sytem here.....

Oh this is so hard to watch.....every game I cringe before I hear the games starting lineup.....maybe he got the hint the other night when Cloutier was getting booooed by the home crowd!

http://www.latimes.com/sports/hockey...orts-nhl-kings

Should have started a new thread, would be great to have more threads on Cloutier, but ah well...

"The feeling is we have guys in goal who give us a chance to win in every game we go into," Crawford said. "That is an advantage for us. It's good to see Matty get off to the start he has had this season. Dan has not had the results that maybe he deserved some nights, but that can change."

Crap It is nice that he has faith in him, but he is defending Cloutier too much.

"We wanted Cloot to work through the criticism he was getting from our fans and in public," Crawford said. "Fighting through that is a positive sign."

Fighting through the criticism? So the criticism is affecting his poor play? He is a professional athlete thats gets paid millions of dollars to perform. He hasn't held up his part of the bargain, but at the very least should be able to handle being criticized.

"It's coming," Cloutier said before Wednesday's game. "I've had a couple good games and hopefully I'll be able to keep it rolling."

I must have missed his good games. Were they in the preseason?

Why does Crawford chose to ignore the numbers? I like Crawford as a coach and I am sure Cloutier is a nice guy; but I think these two are the only ones that think Cloutier is any good. The worst thing about all this is the contract extension. Why? As a fan, I want to know...

on "ignoring the numbers..."

Cechmanek's 2.51 goals against average was the SECOND BEST GAA by a Kings starting netminder in the last 5 years... third best in that span for ALL Kings' goaltenders who had appeared in 40 games or more.

and how does everyone feel about Roman?

We only signed Clout's to ensure we lose every game, get the 1st overall pick.

Oh my god that one had me lying on the ground laughing my head off. First off, where were this good games he is talking about ? And secondly, does this mean that this is how he plays when he is good ? Then god help us when he starts to play bad.

I think the only thing that can save the kings from Cloutier right now is a divine intervention.

Some of you are completely off base. Is he bad? Yes. Is he that bad? No.

That ranked 30th overall in 03-04. the early 00's had many many record setting goalie numbers across the board.

Can't agree. Cloutier is that bad. None of this is a surprise to me.

Guy was the stone holding the Canucks down and now he is the anchor drowning the Kings in tears.

Honestly. I didn't really have a problem with Roman. I guess at the time anyone but Storr was amazing to me.

"Computer?" Yes, Captain. "Merge Cloutier Threads."

And maybe put the missing apostrophe in "Leagues" or editing "golie" while you're there. Foxy Brown spells better than you thread starters.

What I expect from a starting goalie is that they save around 90% (.900) of the shots that they face. That's a rough number borne from general observation of stats that goalies ranked in the league's Top 15~20 tend to sport, year after year.

How does Cloutier stack against that benchmark?

01-02 VAN .901
02-03 VAN .908
03-04 VAN .914
05-06 VAN .892
06-07 LOS .874

It looks bad right now, for sure, but I agree with Reaper that it's still too early to be calling for an execution 15 games into an 82 game schedule. If his numbers don't turn to the right side of average soon though...

The problem that I have is that Garon isn't just slightly statistically better, he blows Cloutier's stats out of the water this season with this team. I don't understand why you would change goalies after the Dallas and NYR games. There was no indication that Garon was tiring and there was no indication that Cloutier was ready to get out of his slump. Cloutier just doesn't look comfertable out there and it makes the rest of the team play nervous. Garon settles the team down when he is out there. You can't always explain why a team plays better with one goalie over another, it just doesn't make sense that you don't ride the hot goalie when you can.

It's the favoritism that Crawford has shown Cloutier that is causing the hatred for Cloutier.

Obviously we need to start Garon as much as possible so he can join his teammate in the GAA cellar as quickly as possible.

29 goalies have started more games than Garon. That's, basically, the rest of the league. As nice as Garon's numbers look, he's not playing like the best goaltender in the league, so the number of games can't be ignored. Chances are very high that, if he would've played more games, his numbers would've gotten worse. If he had played at least 10 games, I think that he would've dropped to maybe 7th or 8th in both stats. Is that still quite nice and good enough to play him over Cloutier? Absolutely. My point is simply that topping the league shouldn't be considered that big of a deal when you've started only 6 games while most of the top goalies in the league have played more or less double that.

^ Or maybe if he started more games he would have played well in them too and instead of having great stats on 6 games he would have great stats on 10+ games.

You can't assume anything, hopefully he will get a chance to play a few in a row so we can really see what he is going to do...instead of making it up to fit our opinions
