Fox Sports: Kings shopping Visnovsky

Quote:
The Kings are believed shopping defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky, who is signed through next season at an affordable cap hit of $1.824 million per season. The assumption is Souray for Visnovsky, but even though Souray's trade value is high right now Habs management may not be keen to move him at this time. The Canadiens would also lose considerable size by dealing away the 6-foot-4, 227-pound Souray for the 5-foot-10, 188-pound Visnovsky.

Defense is not the problem. Offense is. And Visnovsky brings both.

Souray is 30 years old, how is that re-buillding if the Kings keep getting older?

No. No. No. No. No. No. No.

IF you want Souray wait until the offseason and sign him as a UFA, he has said he wants to be closer to his daughter and that only leaves two teams, LA or Anaheim.

Souray is also like Corvo, all offense, no defense.

Sign Souray as a free agent, no way he gets dealt of Lubo.

There's also cyberspace talk the Kings were scouting the Canadiens, not the Senators, with Sheldon Souray supposedly the target of their attention.

Souray, who currently leads all NHL defensemen in scoring, is rumored to want to sign with a California-based team next summer as a free agent in order to live closer to his young daughter, who lives in Los Angeles with her mother

No way the Kings trade for Souray when they can just sign him in the offseason. Especially not Lubo.

By the end of Visnovsky`s contract he will be 32. I dont think the Kings want to give Visnovsky a huge lucruative deal. Souray on the other hand may be signed for cheaper(because of his daughter maybe?) and could possibly the phyical presence that they want . I also feel that even though they are the same age in 2 - 4 years down the line Souray will be in better health and less prone to injury due to size and style of play. With that being said I love Visnovsky and I love Souray but Visnovsky for Souray straight up is a bad trade and I think deep down inside if Lombardi is indeed intrested in Souray he would need to question weather or not he would need to give up a valuable asset in Visnovsky to get a player who has publicly stated he would like to move to California to be near his daughter.

It's essentially a step sideways since Lubo is 30 also.

Hmm, Conroy got a couple points after rumors of him being shopped around surfaced. Maybe Lombardi's just shopping everyone to make them play better

Visnovsky for Souray makes absolutely no sense. Why would they trade someone with 2 years left on his contract for someone who's gone after this year? That's just ridiculous. If Souray wants to sign with the Kings, he can do it next Summer and not cost the Kings anything. Visnovsky would fetch a huge return. Wasting that on Souray, given his impending free agency and desire to sign in CA, is just mind-bogglingly stupid.

Whats even crazier is the article says that the Habs would be the ones to reject the deal.

Either:

(i) The writer of this article is ******** when it comes to hockey; or
(ii) DL is ******** for even considering this deal.

Absolutely right it's a bad trade. If you can sign Souray as a UFA, then you can think about trading Vis. Maybe during the draft. For, say, the AHL's top rookie scorer & a 1st round pick. Just a thought....

Vis for Souray is the dumbest **** I've ever heard...all it does is make the Kings worse on offense and defense. I don't even want the Kings to sign him in the offseason.

I think that it would be safe to say that the Kings are "shopping" anyone over 26 years old. I would think that DL would be looking for his team.

If SJ is any indication, we can look forward to getting a bunch of mobile & nasty defencemen, ala Hannan, Stuart, McLaren, Rathje, etc.

Lubo >> Souray. If you trade Visnovsky who do we have left? That makes our defense worse than it already is.

Agreed.....this team needs a major shake-up but I hope Lubo is still here when the dust settles.

As stupid as I think it would be for DL to trade Lubo for Souray, signing him will be easier said than done. Of the three California-based NHL teams, two are cup contenders(likely for next year as well), and the Kings, at this stage of the game, anyway, aren't one of them. Anaheim might not have the cap room, nor the desire for Souray, and Souray might not want to be a #3 or #4 defenseman, but if he didn't demand a ton of money, they could easily look at him as OD's replacement. And while San Jose is further away from his daughter, they're a great fit for him. They'll easily have enough cap room, and he'd fill a very big role there.

But, would LA really want Souray all that badly? He's great offensively, but I can think of better defensive defenders. With guys like Sopel, Lubo and Blake(and Tverdovsky, if he plays), what's the need for a guy like Souray?
