Bégin going back to school

Quote:
Begin has become active in Canadiens' children's foundation events and this season, he was named spokesman for the Quebec midget triple-A league's drug awareness program.

He appears in television and radio spots encouraging teens to stay off performance-enhancing and recreational drugs.

"The more you talk about it the better," said Begin. "When you see people on TV and radio, sometimes it gets in the kid's ear better than when parents do it.

"I like talking to kids. I play in the NHL for the Montreal Canadiens, so most kids in Quebec know who I am. So it's easy to go out there and talk to them because you know they'll listen."

The guy is great. There was a nice article about him in the paper the other day. He comes from a really poor family, his dad was alcooholic and didn't have a regular job. He says that's where he got his work ethic from, he learned early the value of hard work.

He also said he was scared a little of the pressure he could have from playing in montreal when he first came around, but he understood fast enough that people like players who give it all.

Really glad to have him on our team.

I hope he'll play all his career with the habs. He's the perfect example of a player who has the right attitude. And these days, it's very rare.

this is all very nice, but Bégin needs to start capitalizing on the fact he's probably the 2nd most popular player after Koivu, and he's francophone to boot. He needs to start signing endorsement deals left and right. He has a fantastic image in Québec and i hope he can make it pay off.

I like the "school is cool" thing especially since it really is a good message and it's nice to think that he genuinely wants that education.

That's exactly what he does if you take time to read the article.

Way to go Steve! I mean the guy obviously doesn't need a diploma.
We need more 'good' examples like him.

You can only respect him more for all he's doing.
