I want people to throw out some names that would actually benefit the Flyers with a trade. To be honest, I would like to see one move in the immediate future. Who might be available, and what would you be willing to give up? The Calgary megadeal would leave us with less firepower up front, and Ramholt is a year or two away from being an impact defenseman in the NHL. I want to hear real ideas, not crap like:

To Anyone:
Derian Hatcher

To Flyers:
A bag of pucks.

Gagne, Carter, Umberger, Giroux, Esche, and Rathje are all names we have seen floating around. Forsberg, too, but I highly doubt that. I will take a stab at something that may help two teams out:

To Calgary:
Umberger, Giroux, Rathje, and a 3rd

To Philadelphia:
Huselius, Regehr, and Prust

Gagne-Forsberg-Knuble
Huselius-Carter-Calder
Sanderson-Richards-Ruzicka
Eager-Robitaille-Kapanen
Cullen/Prust/Cote

Pitkanen-Regehr
Meyer-Hatcher
Gauthier-Picard/Jonsson/Jones

Nitty
Esche

Regehr is a stud, and he and Pitkanen would form one of the best pairings in the league. Huselius could use a change of scenery, and is a great playmaking winger, which Carter really needs. Brandon Prust is an agitator/middleweight who scored decently in juniors, while racking up PIMs. Giving up both Umberger and Giroux at the same time is really rough, but getting Regehr and ditching Rathje's contract would make it more worthwhile. It's a big trade in terms of youth and talent, but it plugs some big holes, too. Outrageous?

No one in their right mind gives up Giroux just to get rid of Rathje's money.

I would only include Giroux in a deal for a current young superstar...of which there are very few. Maybe he turns out to be a bust, who knows with prospects, but right now you have to wait and see how he turns out. Trading him now could turn out to be as dumb as trading Forsberg so many years ago.

I can feel you on the not trading Giroux, but it woud not be "just to get rid of Rathje's money." It would be to gain a 26-year-old stud defenseman who makes only $1.9 million this year.

I think that defenseman can be had for someone besides Giroux, especially if reports about him not being happy in Calgary are true.

I really don't care if all the trade rumors I hear turn out to be false. It's still fun to speculate what can be done.

And I'm hoping the Flyers work something good out w/ the Flames, that last trade that had us getting Iginla and Boyd and such was horrible.

Source?Regehr never said anything about being unhappy in Calgary.I doubt you'll find a defenseman available of Regehr's calibre for 1.9 mil.

This is exactly why I thought this would be a good deal: fans of both teams have a reason to complain about it. I've read that Iginla is frustrated in Calgary right now, but not Regehr. I still think that getting Iginla would cost Gagne, and the move would be lateral at best, especially the rumored deal for Iginla, Boyd, and Ramholt. I tried to come up with an alternative. Any other suggestions?

This is an unabashed bump for my trade proposal. I don't make them all the time, and I thought that this was a good one. Plus, I nailed Handzus for Calder over a year ago. . .
