Though we're doing absolutely great so far, with no crazy surge of injuries like in 1997 when Brian Savage was our poster boy, I can see the Habs definitely making the playoffs....at 5th or 6th place. Maybe more only if the goalies become god-like towards the end of the season..
How far will we go? At this rate I would definitely say Round 2, EASILY.
The Sabres are scaring me too much though. But we never know right? Also, the Ducks are good to watch. I live in Southern California but my heart is in Montreal. I get to see a lot of games and I envision them playing the Habs. We would maybe ruin them in terms of speed and creativity, but they have the firepower lik Pronger, Neidermayers, Selanne, etc.
Anyway, we'll see how it goes. Let me know what you guys think.
We can't make playoff progress predictions, because it completely depends on who the matchup is against.
For instance (and under the presumption that Carolina was the best team in the league last season), had we faced off against Philly last season,we might have progressed to round 2, then lose against Carolina.
Even if we finish first in the league, there's no certainty about progressing in the playoffs. It's a new season.
That being said, I'd be surprised if we finished lower than 6th. So as it's shaping up, we'd likely play one of the top two teams in the Southeast in the first round, or the winner of the Atlantic. Momentum changes hands too easily, though.
