Current Habs pregame intro?

I was talking with my friend today and he told me before the game there is a video using the theme from 24. You got the clock and the beeps and you see players arriving to the rink and such. But then Jack Bauer him self (Kiefer Sutherland) on screen and he says in french something like "Now that we've done 24 we're going for 25" (not sure about the wording but it has the same meaning.

Anyway could someone confirm this and give more relevant info ? cause this is just what I heard but I thought it was pretty neat.

Yup, it's true! I love the entire pregame ceremonies with the U2, Gnarls Barkley and of course the Coldplay intro. I just wish they'd get rid of vertigo

There's indeed a 24 theme going at the Bell Centre, but I'm not sure about Sutherland's wording because I don't speak french.

It is awesome they have used a few differnt players as the "jack bauer" character.

Koivu
Higgins
Souray and Kovalev are the ones I have seen, they are always on the cell phone then drive an SUV into the bell centre.

Confirmed it was awesome! When Kiefer says his bit in French and then they pump Gnarls Barkley it was just electric... sent shivers down my spine.

They play the opening from 24, it counts down till 19:00 PM and instead of showing 24, it shows 25.

The intro is pretty neat... starts with a "24" then you get a "this occurs between 9am and 7pm" followed multiple screens with different players. They go to the rink and talk on cell phones, then appear in the dressing room. I've seen different players being focused on at the different games I attended. Kovy, Koivu, Huet, Souray I remember for sure.

The clock then counts down to 7:00 or 7:30 pm depending on game time.

Afterwards you get the "24" come back, but it stutters a bit and goes on "25".

That's when Sutherland comes on and says something like "La route vers la 25ieme se poursuit ce soir" or something like that (The road to 25 continues tonight).

So that's who plays that track! I actually quite like it. I don't know if I'll continue to enjoy it over time but it's nice to hear to nice funky soul again.

I'm a huge funk, soul, & jazz fan, and as such most of my collection is 60s-70s stuff (vinyl of course). With the strings and voice, the Crazy track has a bit of that Curtis Mayfield feel.

Listened to clips from their LP on the web. Was pleasantly surprised to see they also cover The Violent Femmes on their LP (I was also a punk/post-punk fan growing up in the 80s). Will have to seek this out. And this is saying a lot since I usually stay away from most new major label stuff (being in your mid-30's makes you cynical that way ).

They do indeed.

And for those who haven't seen it yet, here is a recap of the full intro to put everything together.... it's really nice:

The 24 tv show stlye logo appears on the screen.
Voice: "Previously, in Canadiens' History:"
Some dramatic music plays as they show short clips of the Canadiens' greats of the past. The loudest cheers from the crowd are always when they focus in on Maurice Richard. The last shot is from the 93 finals.
Voice: "The following takes place between 9 am and 7 pm (or 7:30 pm)"
The video shows players walking on the street, talking on phones, driving their cars, working out in the gym... I've seen Koivu, Komi, Higgins, Huet, Kovalev, and others in some of the clips.
The last shot is of the Canadiens' players walking out of the dressing room.
Then the sound ot a clock ticking and you see a clock on the scoreboard tick past 7 or 7:30.
Then the 24 logo again, and it changes to 25.
And then Kiefer says something like "Ce soir, la route vers le 25ieme se poursuit."

It is a pretty neat intro, although nothing can compare with Streets.

The Gnarls Barkley part is the worst part. It's a very laid back song which doesn't help to sustain any intensity. Intensity is really what defines a Habs environment and Montreal is second to none in that department.

Maybe thats the problem why the habs have problem showing up in the first. In the 2nd and 3rd they come on the ice with For Whom the Well Tolls of Metallica and taht song can pump the player up.

I'm just not sure about the Gnarls Barklay thing. Just doesnt get me going, or even remotely thinking about the Habs really.

Honestly, I never really liked the song, though many say "it grows on you". Im not exactly sure I necessarily want anything to "grow on me" while watching the pregame presentation, except a sense of excitement and a hockey love bulge in my pants. "Is that a hockey stick or are you just happy to see me"
