Take a look at the team stats part at the top of post #20. It shows what most of us knew already, that we're one of the least penalized teams in the league at 27th overall. We also don't draw that many penalties, but I think that's mostly a product of not being a gritty team. We don't get many mathching minors at all, and even less retalitory penalties because we rarely do anything to piss off the other team.

The difference between the 20th overall team and the teams in the top 10 isn't that much. It's basically only a difference of one or two wins or losses, so it really doesn't seem like it would have a huge affect on our standings, although it would make it a lot closer if we had a couple more wins. For instance, if we had won the two OTL instead of losing them, that would have put us at 23-2-0 which is the same record that Carolina has in that category and they are 4th overall. 4 points could end up making a difference in whether or not we make the playoffs, but we still would be an 8th place team that barely made it, and without much hope of playoff success.

I didn't see one in the sites I looked at, but there might be one out there. I'd be very interested in that stat as well.

I don't have the league ranking, but Colorado is 8-7-2 when tied after 2. while I'm at it, they are 10-11-2 when tied after 1.

22-3-2 when leading after 2 isn't horrible, but consider this: those 3 regulation losses is equal to the total of the other 4 NW teams - Edm has 0, Van, Cal and Min each have 1. That's 4 points they've left on the table that a NW playoff team has not. Couple that with their terrible trailing after 2 record, and it's pretty easy to see why they are looking up at everyone.

I see. Shouldn't we be able to draw some penalties from teams unable to keep up with our good skaters? Or do we just need to get Nieminen back ->

Heh. 21.1% on the PP. Too bad we barely got to use it compared to other teams.

Most goals in the West, and 3rd overall. 3rd best PP in the West, and 4th overall, but we can't make the playoffs.

That shows how bad our D is, how important it is in the new NHL, and how badly we need FG to improve it in the offseason.
