Weiss vs. Spezza

Who is would you rather have as of right now.

I'd take Weiss as he has 10 points in 10 games this year and is playing fantastically defensivly. He also is playing more physical and has ignited Kristian Huselius and Val Bure on the Panthers top line. Weiss will be a star IMO and I think he is in the top 10 in best players 21 and younger.

This year, playing for the lowly panthers, Weiss has put up 10 points in 10 games. Spezza has 19 points in 11 games playing for the offensively gifted Senators. Weiss's shooting percentage is 31%! He also is a plus 4 when Spezza is a minus one. As of right now, all signs point to Weiss IMO. He is coming on and it's no fluke.

I think you mean 11 points in 19 games. Otherwise he'd be really dominating.

Anyhow, one of the reasons Weiss has a better ppg is because he's getting 20:15 mins/game, while Spezza is only getting 14:33 mins/game. That makes a huge difference.

Anyhow, I would pick Spezza, too. Weiss is doing well now, but I expect Spezza to outperform him over the season.

Spezza by the distance of New York to China.

Stop trying to sugar coat Weiss' stats at the same time downgrade Spezza's numbers. Weiss is a nice player but he is not a top 10 talent under 21 and he is not in the same stratosphere as Spezza.

You are such a homer, it isn't even funny. It's not even close. Since Dudley has become coach Weiss has been playing around 22-23 minutes a game. He better be putting up numbers getting that kind of ice time. Spezza is still putting up good numbers with much less ice time. I'd take 1 Spezza over 2 Weiss'.

I said As of Right now. WIth the way Spezza is playing vs. the Way Weiss is playing. I have no doubts about Spezza's ability and I think he will be a better player in the future then Weiss, but as of right now, Weiss is outperforming him by a small margin. Weiss earned his ice time and got a callup by scoring in the AHL. He earned the time under Iron Mike by spectacular play and plays defensivly better than a lot of players in the league. Spezza is a spectacular talent though, don't get me wrong and I'd take him in the long run over Weiss, but as of this season, now Weiss is better.

I think this thread is pointless and I actually expected it to be a SPezza victory by a close margin but someone might as well close this thread. It'll be 100-1(me) later tonight. Is Weiss really that bad or is Spezza just so good?

I'm a Florida Panthers fan, but please... I would take Spezza ahead of Weiss, but I still think that Weiss brings those little intangibles to a team that Spezza'll never bring (I hope I'm wrong) ! And when you take all those things into account... Spezza isn't on another planet compare to Weiss IMO !

But my vote goes to Spezza too ! I just don't think it is as inaccurate as some say to make the comparison !

Jason Spezza. It's amazing how quickly the homers come out when a player goes on a hot streak. Even now, I'd still have Spezza. Weiss will eventually cool down, he will not be a PPG player all year. Spezza has not been playing top line all year, and still has those numbers. Weiss in 10 games has been playing top line and has 10 points. As evident from my Penguins last year, Steve McKenna had 9 goals, 5 (almost sure 5) were on the PP. No matter what skill level a player is at, when they play the top line they get points.

This looks like one of your patended 'start a thread pimping a player you like then arguing with everyone else, who disagrees'

Nice timing on the thread btw. Strike while the iron is hot!

If he is on another universe, he would have outplayed Todd White since being drafted ! Even now he can't outplay White !

Weiss has Gretzky-esque playmaking abilities and vision, even the Great One said it !

Weiss will be a big leader, a great defensive forward, putting up points year-in year-out whereas Spezza will amaze you by being the best offensive producer but won't be the leader or the defensive forward Weiss is... and I don't think he'll ever come close !

Weiss may be on a hot streak, and I know that some of his goals were "lucky" ones, but give the guy a break... He is young, has a lot of confidence right now, is Canadian and playing great in the league right now... give him some much earned credit !

Gretzky is too nice to consider anything he says too strongly. I do, however, realize he has great vision.

Just curious why Weiss is being touted as a big leader already and how Spezza will never come close to that? I don't think Spezza will be a great leader, but I don't see why Weiss will be?

No one is saying he sucks, but what does being Canadian have to do with it?

The first few times I saw Spezza I was blown away by him...big, soft hands and great vision is a nice combo. There was no comparision last year. I haven't seen enough of Spezza this year to have a say but I wonder how many of the responders on this poll have seen Weiss THIS year. The difference is day and night!

Weiss is certainly the better skater and defender while Spezza should land in the elite catogory for stick-handling and pure offense. Their games are so entirely different it's like comparing apples and oranges.

I do know that if Weiss stays on this tear people are gonna start noticing...and I don't see any reason for him to slow down. He's earning the minutes he's getting. The biggest change...he's relaxed and loaded with confidence, both his own and Dudley's.
