Although Florida (6-8-4) has won five of its eight home contests, it fell to 0-2-1 in its last three overall with a 4-2 road loss to New Jersey on Saturday.

"Their three goals on the power play was the difference in the hockey game," Panthers general manager and coach Jacques Martin said. "The bottom line was too many penalties."

During the three-game skid, Florida's opponents have capitalized on six of 22 power-play opportunities. The Panthers have been called for 92 penalty minutes in those games.

Florida leading scorer Olli Jokinen didn't score in either of the last two games, both on the road, where he has just three assists in 10 games this season. Jokinen has six goals and 10 assists overall.

In addition to recording six goals and seven assists at home, Jokinen has been successful against the Capitals, with eight goals and nine assists in 34 games against them.

Florida opens a three-game homestand Monday. The series between the Capitals and Panthers is tied 26-26-4 with nine draws, but the Capitals have won the last two matchups.

Thanks to our friend George Richards who tells us that BOTH Newy and Weiss are out. Newy isn't doing so well but Weiss could be back next game on Thursday with 3 days off. That means Drew Larman is a go tonight, with Kiwi back at forward.

Red Hot Cat Of The Night: In his last 11 games, Jay Bouwmeester has been positive or even each night, accumulating a +8 rating in the past 11 games combined.

LET'S GO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!

The Caps are always an exciting team to watch. I hope the Cats will be able to meet the Caps' intensity.

FSN Florida isn't broadcasting the game, but you can catch it on Center Ice tonight. I actually enjoy listening to the Washington commentators. They're a good group.

Ah agreed, to all Caps fans, props to your commentators, they are often both funny going off topic while still keeping track of the game (I'm looking at you here Potvin) and incredibly UNbiased, they admit when either team did something wrong or didn't get the proper call. I think having Ovechkin just makes you enjoy the game win or lose, it's a refreshing feeling. Either way, important game that we might tie the Caps in points tonight or worse fall farther behind. Good to be home again but the injuries do not help. Boy this team could use another forward. Oh well, here's hoping.

The Caps do have some of the more pleasant commentators in the NHL. They put guys like Tampa's commentating team to shame. (I'm pretty sure they are both legally retarded).

As for tonight's game, it's a crapshoot. I'm done trying to predict things. Let just say, we've won 3 of the last 13.

Big division game tonight, but the Cats WILL beat the Caps. With 4 of the next 5 games at home, this is what they need. PANTHERS WIN 5-2.

This is almost a must win. The Caps made us look terrible last time in D.C., and this is a team we should beat as we did many times over the past few seasons. Like always, that top line needs of theirs is very underrated and can score like crazy when they're allowed to. They must be shut down, and we have to get as many shots on Kolzig as possible in order to win. It should be interesting watching on Caps TV. I think they have the best broadcast guys in the league and definitely keep the viewers entertained when the game's kind of boring.

For the record, the Caps' winger Richard Zednik is in fact injured with an "upper body injury", so if someone could edit the game thread?

I think one of the Panthers needs to take a run at Ovechkin tonight...just so the other guys can see what happens and take notes about how they're supposed to react when someone goes after their teammates.

I wouldn't be surprised if they start out playing reserved, for fear of being buried in calls, but they're going to win. So, go Panthers!

Hopefully our team toughness can offset that of Washington's Donald Brashear, John Erskine, Chris Clark, Matt Bradley, Brian Sutherby, Bryan Muir, etc...

Two enforcers dealt today, Parros for a 2nd! round pick, and Fedoruk for a 4th round pick, I definitley think it's worth a 4th round pick the way this team drafts. I think we should have gone after Stanislav Chistov. Tons of speed, great offensive skills, would at least be good in shootouts I would think. Now he's in Boston, I don't know why we couldn't have gotten him as a 2nd round pick to this team really doesn't produce much (Globke, Meyer, Kreps, etc...) and I'd take Chistov over one of them any day.

In case anyone misses it, I updated the GDT again, with info from GR's blog

Basically Weiss/Newy out, Larman/Kiwi in, Auld in goal, etc.

Nieuwendyk needs to retire already, this prolonging the inevitable is only hurting the team. If this was up in Toronto he would have been forced to retire already. If he can't cut it playing a couple games then he shouldn't be bouncing in and out of the lineup with his injury. I like Nieuwy and all but it's a distraction to the team I believe with him coming in and out of the lineup as there's no stability, and guys can make excuses and rely on guys like Nieuwy to produce when he comes back. If he wasn't there period maybe it would allow others to be forced to pick up the slack or deal for another roster player who CAN contribute night in and night out.

Does Nieuwendyk come back fully recovered or does he come back if the team needs him?

Just an fyi, Bryan Muir should not be included in that list. He may be 6'4", but unlike the guys you mentioned, he is rarely willing to drop the gloves. He's never fought as a Capital, and only has about 5 fights under his belt.

Does anyone in South Florida see the game on TV??? I don't see it on FSN, but sometimes it is broadcast in HD on 200 for Comcast users. Can anyone confirm?

Channel 200 is FSN Florida still, so my educated guess is a simple no.

That was dumb! How did Pettinger get around everyone to score that? Auld didn't play it well either.

I thought Kiwi scored, I was busy doing something else, what'd I miss?

On the radio they said it was played with a high stick, and they got called for a high sticking penalty.. I think.

edit: They didn't get a penalty, it was just played with a high stick, sorry.

Oh...thanks. Like I said, I was in the middle of something. That stinks, hopefully they get themselves together here. We need the points here.
