GDT - Oilers at Detroit

Well shucks y'all, I'm a-gonna start me one of these hear threads, with the usual prognostications of a predigous perpetrator of perennial persuits on the pond. Sorta.

Anyway, Detroit ( 11-9-2-0 ) with 66 GF and 56 GA is home to OUR boys, the Oil ( 10-8-3-0 ) with 64 GF and 62 GA. On paper, the slight edge should go to the home team, but not tonight. Tonight, our boys get a glimpse of their destiny to skate with the elite of this league.

Predictions :

4-3 Oilers !
Laraque gets 14 minutes of ice-time.
Horcroff gets 2 assists.
MAB gets a goal on the PP from the point.

Cheers,
Geoff.

I completly agree that they will win.
4-2 will be the score. They will get outshot i think but conks will be there to close the door.
Dvorak, Hemsky, Torres and Brewer.
Datsyuk and Yzerman for the wings.
Oates will get an assist on a PP goal.

As for who is playing and who isn't, I think Chimera, Selmo, and Stoll will be on the 4th line, with sarno, laraque and horcoff watching.
torres - york - dvorak
isbister - oates - hemsky
pisani - smyth - moreau
chimera - stoll - selmo

Just a hunch...

if laraque plays 14 mins, that means he will get 3 points, especially if he gets most of that time in the first period. seems to be the way he goes, MAB is going to get a lot of PP goals in his career ...

My guess for the score is 4-3 Oilers.

And my guess for the lines is...

torres - york - devo ------> can't break these guys up
smyth - oates - salmo ----> get oates and smyth together, and salmo in
isbister - stoll - hemsky ---> looked great yesterday.
moreau - horcoff - pisani --> if horcoff can't play, then this whole lineup gets shuffled.

Maybe.

I guess we'll have to wait til game time and see, I hope he is, playing against an older team i think would benefit him in terms of keeping up, plus he might want to play a road game or two before heading back to the home crowd. I think he'll play tonight.

I hope he plays, but we can expect pretty limited ice time for him his first 'x' games. Still, a good time to start, imo.

Do you already have tickets, or are you going to just take your chances when you get there? Hmmm...too late - you've likely already left by now. Give us a good report when you get back if you can! Thanks.

Hey rabi, out of curiousity are you an expatriate Canuck living over there, or did you just pick up on hockey (reason I ask is because football, obviously, is the game over there)? It's always interesting seeing fans from all over posting here.

Also wondering if that fellow from Scotland managed to make it to the HC and what he thought of it.

My guess is alot of offense, Im gonna go on a limb and say 6-4 Edmonton.

Torres-York-Dvorak
Isbister-Oates-Hemsky
Moreau-Smyth-Pisani
Chimera-Stoll-Salmo

Torres, York, Hemsky, Pisani, Salmo, Brewer for the good guys
Hull, Draper, Lidstrom, Datsyuk for the bad guys.

COuple questions for anyone who know:

Is Valiquette going to get the start? Conklin has been playing every game since his relief stint in TO and this is back to back night after the draining Heritage Classic. I think it might be a smart move considering the club is on the ice again friday against the Avs. To be honest I am worried about this game - back end of a bnack to back against one of the most talented teams in the league in Detroit. Maybe throw Big Valley into the fire and see how he responds.

Is Oates playing? Seems like an odd fit to me. IMO he would be wasting his time. Maybe a more likely start against Colorado on home ice in a televised game.

Just curious.

There is nothing wrong with Conklin. It wasn't his fault that the score ended up 7-1. Conklin faced over 30 shots and let in 5 goals. I think 4 of them were on the PP so it's hardly the goalie's fault in this one. The Oilers sucked on Defence and up front tonight. Put this game in the category of UGLY.

It seems you can't add a reply to the thread without quoting somebody.

My old signature is back at the bottom of my posts, and my avi is gone. And I have no options to get rid of my dumb sig.

What happened?

Too spooky. I'm going to bed.

the nice thing about a game like that is there cannot be any let down the next. this wasnt a 4-3 loss, this was a 7-1 embarrasment.
do they even have a penaly killing unit? or is it just every one for himself.

oh well, they were due for a thrashing like this. im just glad it wasnt against someone like nashville or columbus. i was personally more pissed after the "Montreal Loss" than this joke.

Well, that was flat-out embarassing and a huge debacle all at the same time.

Our forwards gave the puck up every time they crossed the red-line like it was nothing, this is the main reason we got so badly ripped apart. Detroit has a good transition style, and when your forwards are running around trying to chase after their giveaways, you have a problem.

Our PK is absolutely appalling. They abandon the system that works and BAM, it's in the net. It never fails.

Ty Conklin was actually good tonight, which shows you how bad the team played.

MacTavish supposedly not only practiced the team this morning, but skated them hard. Are you KIDDING ME?!?! Why would you do that? What's the point? Do you want the team to come out and stink it up? Well, mission accomplished. Really enjoyed your half-asleep continual look to the scoreboard with that "aw shucks" look on your face. This team was not prepared tonight, and obviously didn't recieve the message to turn it around, and that falls on MacTavish.

All I can say is, they'd better come out about 250 times better against Colorado on Friday.
