St. John's Maple Leafs Game 22: Preview and Review: Nov. 26th, 2003

It is Wednesday, November 26th, 2003.

The St. John's Maple Leafs begin their 6-game road trip tonight with a game against the Milwaukee Admirals at the Bradley Center. It will be the third meeting of the season between the clubs. The Leafs won the first meeting of the season by a score of 3-2 (October 28th) at Mile One Stadium. The Admirals and Leafs played to a 2-2 tie in the second meeting of the season (October 29th) at Mile One Stadium. Game Time is 7:00 pm CST (9:30 pm Newfoundland Time).

The St. John's Maple Leafs will be looking to open the road trip with a win tonight against the Admirals. The Leafs have played 21-games so far this season and they have an overall record of 9-9-2-1. The Leafs are 4-6-2-0 at Mile One Stadium and 5-3-0-1 on the road. The Leafs have a 4-4-1-1 record in their Last Ten. The Leafs are currently in 2nd place in the North Division with 21 points, five behind frontrunner Hamilton and one up on Rochester.

The Admirals are currently tied for 4th in the West Division with Cincinnati.

Leafs Start Road Trip With Win...Leeb Nets Pair...Kidd Kicks Aside 28-Shots.

The St. John's Maple Leafs defeated the Milwaukee Admirals by a score of 2-1 Wednesday night at the Bradley Center. With the win the Leafs improve to 2-0-1-0 against the Admirals this season. The win was the Leafs 10th of the season and 6th on the road. Leeb was the offense tonight for the Blue and White and Kidd recorded the win.

There was no scoring in the first period. The Leafs outshot the Admirals 12-7, both goaltenders were perfect in the first stopping all of the shots fired their way. The Leafs had three powerplays in the first period but failed to score.

The Admirals would open the scoring just 31 seconds into the 2nd period with a goal off the stick of Brad Tiley, his 3rd of the season, with the assists to Scottie Upshall and Curtis Murphy on the powerplay with the Leafs Luca Cereda in the box for tripping. The Leafs Jay Harrison fought the Admirals Jay Henderson in the second period and according to the broadcast it was Harrison who got the decision in that fight. The Leafs would tie the game at 1 on a powerplay of their own off the stick of Brad Leeb, his 7th of the season, with the assists to Carlo Colaiacovo and Maxim Kondratiev at the 9:00 minute mark. The goal came with Scottie Upshall in the penalty box for tripping. Leeb was not finished scoring because less than two-minutes later he scored his 2nd of the game and his 8th of the season, with the assists to Josh Holden and Kyle Wellwood at the 10:58 mark. Leeb's second goal of the game would be the eventual game winner. The Leafs had a couple of more chances to score in the middle stanza with Ben Ondrus hitting the post and Josh Holden hitting the crossbar. Shots in the second period were 12-8 in favor of the Admirals, 20-19 in favor of the Leafs through 40 minutes.

There was no scoring in the 3rd period. Both teams had chances but the goaltenders were up to the task again. The Admirals pulled their goaltender with under a minute to play in regulation. It was not for the extra attacker because the Leafs were on the powerplay. Shots in the third period were 10-6 in favor of the Admirals, 29-26 in favor of the Admirals in the game.

Yeah it was definitely a good win for the Baby Leafs. This is an important road trip for the Baby Leafs hopefully they can keep it going.
