Kidd Assigned To St. John's

According to today's edition of the Telegram the TML's have assigned Trevor Kidd to the SJML's on a conditioning assignment and he will get the start tonight against the Milwaukee Admirals at the Bradley Center.

Conditioning assignments/stints are usually for two-weeks. Having said that this assignment could be for just tonight's game or the whole two-weeks. Curtis Joseph was assigned to Grand Rapids earlier this season on a conditioning assignment and he played one game and was recalled the next day. It will be interesting to see what the Leafs organization does with Kidd. If he is here for two-weeks it will be for the current road trip (6-games in 13 days). I would suspect that Kidd will start all of the games that he is here for and that Centomo will be his backup and Hodson will be the third goaltender.

I heard on LeafsTV yesterday that Kidd is only being sent down for one game with St. John's.

But I guess it wouldn't be impossible for him to end up staying longer. Especially if he doesn't look real sharp.

So are the leafs going to carry 3 goalies? or are they going to send Telly back to SJ?

My guess is it all depends on how Kidd plays. If he can prove if he's capable (even if sub-par to Telly) then Tellqvist will be sent down for the rest of the year. If he sux, then it's either buy-out time or enjoy the rock Kidd.

All you guys say its going to be based on how kidd performs. I think it will be based on how telly maintains his good play. He'll get a game or so in the next week or two. Then QUinn will decide. Cause kidd is already NHL ready... though hurt.

My two cents.

As much as I'd love to believe that Telly's fate rests in his own hands, it all comes down to $$ I believe, and unless Kidd plays horribly the Leafs won't want to fork out the buy out although it was hinted at for the first time last week. Tellqvist doesn't have to clear waivers and gets caught in a numbers game.

granted... but seeing that belfour probably has one year left, wouldn't you want your future starter to learn from the best? personally... i'd buy out kidd as good as he has been and have telly backup full time.

Absolutely. I'm all for Tellqvist staying up. Belfour's probably the best mentor for goalies in the NHL at present (see Turco). Sorry if my posts came across as me favouring Telly being sent down, that's definately not my recommendation. Unfortunately, this organization has proved that money means more than sense to them too many times. Perfect example of that is the World Cup games next September. If I remember correctly the cheapest seats are $240 apiece ranging up to around $1600 per game (and that's the round robin games, god knows what the finals will be) compared to the ones being played in Montreal where you can get a two game package ranging from $68-220 (that's "two" games). Heard that on 590 last night and just shook my head.

I'm in favour of keeping Tellqvist up too, but I don't think it really matters all that much for this year.

I am not so much in favour of buying out Kidd because it can be bad karma to the hockey gods to get rid of a goalie for nothing. All of the sudden Belfour and Tellqvist will be injured.

I think you ride it out with Kidd this year. Unless he is hopeless.

Game tonight

I listened to the game tonight and the way it sounded Kidd was really sharp.. I really liked his game when he first came up with Calgary. If in fact this shoulder injury stems from that fall a couple of years ago then its possible we could have a major sleeper on our hands. Hopefully he is back to his original form.

Joey24,
I doubt it if the TML's are going to carry three goaltenders for any length of time, but I would not be surprised if the SJML's carried three goaltenders. If Tellqvist gets sent down it should be Tellqvist and Centomo that are the goaltenders, with Hodson as either the third goaltender or sent him to Memphis which will more than likely end Mike Minard's stay with the River Kings.
