Game Day Notes from Nashvillepredators.com:

GAMEDAY: Preds at Blue Jackets, 6 PM

November 15, 2006

TONIGHT'S MATCH-UP

WHO: Nashville Predators (10-4-1) vs. Columbus Blue Jackets (5-9-1)

WHEN: 6:00 p.m. CT

WHERE: Nationwide Arena, Columbus, Ohio

TONIGHT THE PREDS WEAR: White

TV: no local coverage

RADIO: WNSR 560-AM; SATELLITE RADIO: XM Ch. 205

Tonight the Nashville Predators will take on the Central Division rival Columbus Blue Jackets on the road in the first of three meetings between the foes over the next six nights. Following tonight's game, the Predators will host Minnesota Thursday and Columbus Friday before returning to Columbus next Monday.

Game time tonight is 6:00 p.m. CT at Nationwide Arena. The match will not be televised locally but will be broadcast on SportsRadio 560-AM. It can also be heard online.

The Blue Jackets (5-9-1) find themselves in a state of flux this week. The Predators will be their first opponent since the firing of head coach Gerard Gallant on Monday. Assistant coach Gary Agnew has been promoted and will make his NHL head coaching debut tonight behind Columbus' bench. The shake-up was the result of a record that saw the team drop nine of its last 12 games. Despite the Jackets' position at the bottom of the five-team Central Division, Nashville can expect a fired up Columbus team as its players and coaching staff will be looking to make a fresh start. With offensive firepower in the persons of Rick Nash, David Vyborny, Nikolai Zherdev, Sergei Fedorov, Fredrik Modin and Anson Carter, Columbus has the potential to be a very dangerous opponent.

The Predators (10-4-1) come into tonight's game after a 1-0 home victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday. The Predators used that contest to get back on the winning track after being shut out 3-0 by the Detroit Red Wings on Friday. Nashville has won 10 of its last 12 games and is two points behind the division-leading Red Wings with two games in hand. It's currently a tight race among the well-balanced Predators squad for the team lead in scoring. Steve Sullivan tops the list with 14 points (5g-9a), Paul Kariya is second with 13 points (3g-10a), and Jason Arnott and Martin Erat are tied at 12.

Nashville and Columbus, who open the season series tonight, will meet for a total of eight times this season. Nashville won the 2005-06 series with a 5-2-1 record but lost the most recent meeting, a 3-1 game in Nashville on April 3 of this year. The Predators have an all-time record of 17-9-2-1 against the Blue Jackets and are 7-6-1 against Columbus in Nationwide Arena.

This game has a strange feeling to it, coaches are usually fired after they play the Predators not before.

Still no word on which goalie gets the start, I guess?

I am anxious to see who gets scratched tonight ( Tootoo, Smithson, Hodichuk, etc ). I think Upshall has earned the right to play tonight and Trotz' mancrush on Fiddler guarantees him a slot....

we've not looked good early on, even strength. we're getting hemmed in our end for long stretches of time. the carter\zherdev line is giving us fits.

we've not looked good, at all, in either zone.

playing very passive defense again, which directly lead to that first goal. i couldn't tell who it was, but our defenseman went down trying to block a pass that never came, and the jacket simply threw it back to chimera, who had all day to pick his shot.

Wow, the Jackets announcers are are pretty heavy on the homerism. I'm sure people think that way of Pete and Terry but I don't think they are as biased at this crew.

i'm watching the game, if it's the tv crew you're speaking of...yeah they're saying that the jackets have outchanced\outshot the preds as well as carried the play..but that's not really bias. to this point, it's just the truth.

well, the jackets get screwed by a reaaally early whistle and lose a good goal.

we keep dicking around in our end, and get one that WILL count. this has been a frustrating game to watch.

wow, what an insane setup by sully. all fiddler had to do was backhand it in. leclaire and the jackets defender were both thinking shot all the way, and sully pulled a pass out of nowhere to get it tied up.

hopefully that's our wakeup call.

maybe this is our "bad" period of the game?

why can't we play 60 good minutes?

Is Erat still playing with Kariya and Arnott? If so, how is that line doing thus far?

Not so much that but more of the little things like saying a BJ picked a Preds pocket when the Pred just miss played the puck. Upshall's hit was late, it was a penalty but not for being late.
