"Lightning Crashes"

Rick DiPietro has turned around his season, and so have the New York Islanders.

DiPietro looks to continue his resurgence and help the Islanders (8-6-2) win five straight on the road for the first time in five years when they visit the Tampa Bay Lightning (9-8-1) on Friday.

The goaltender opened this season with three straight losses before missing four games with a groin strain. But DiPietro, the first overall pick in the 2000 draft, has rebounded to go 6-2-0 with a 2.23 goals-against average since returning.

He won for the fifth time in six starts Wednesday and recorded his first shutout of the season by stopping 35 shots in a 3-0 victory at Dallas.

New York improved to 2-0 on its four-game trip with Wednesday's win, which was its fourth in a row away from home. The Islanders haven't won five consecutive road games since a six-game run from Oct. 5-26, 2001.

The Islanders will now be trying to end a five-game losing streak to the Lightning, including a 5-1 home defeat on Nov. 6 during which Nolan thought his team "quit."

DiPietro is 2-4-1 with a 2.64 GAA in eight appearances against Tampa Bay.

The Lightning's Vincent Lecavalier and Martin St. Louis will be looking to get back on track after both of their 11-game point streaks were stopped in a 3-1 home loss to Montreal on Wednesday.

"For the most part this year, I think the refs have done a pretty good job," Lightning coach John Tortorella said. "But (Wednesday), to me, was an absolute horror show, both ways."

Lets Go Islanders!!!!!!!!! Lets Go Islanders!!!!!!!!!! Lets Go Islanders!!!!!!!!!!

This will be an important game to establish some consistency and start creating a gap between the "has" and "has nots." Not only for the team, but our prescious goalie. And I'll admit, this is the first time in a long time that I feel confident in leaning on DP. Perhaps he can establish a roll ackin to last year's post-Oly. break. Positions and placements within the conference are forming themselves, yet the standings are still quite tight.

I'll remind, Tampa is a FAST team, though despite that real advantage the Isles played them hard and well (never mind the 5-1 score). For most of the game it was close, with a slight edge in play going to the Isles. However, once the 3rd hit, the team just seemed to give up, which was unacceptible and was addressed. Hunter and Witt this time around need to stay cognizant of that sneaky back door play, but overall of the Tampa speed attack.

With all that said, a winnable game, Tampa is flawed in all facets--from goal out. Don't take penalties, play 'em disciplined in all facets including defensive zone coverage, and this will be a competitive game, much like installment number 1 a week and a half ago.

good first paragraph belovedisles that is the exact reason i said above this game is important. you lose a game here and there and befor you know it other teams are winning and you become the has nots. and we have games in hand form not playing for 5 days so these are the games to win.

Have Fun Kristy xo. Tampa Bay has had our # and this is the team that the Isles were playing when the sh_t hit the fan - Nolan said they quit. Soooo the players should come out with a pay back attitude for that loss that put them in Nolan's dog house.
If we can beat Tampa Bay in their rink - WOW this team is going places. Let's go for a Florida sweep. Florida is a tough team to beat at home too. We don't want to fall back to .500. It doesn't get any easier Monday when we play in Toronto. We need every win we can get because we will need 90-100 points to make the play-offs. .600 hockey is needed to make the play-offs now. Yes - you need nearly 6 wins out of every 10 games to make the play-offs now. The old Norris Division days are gone.

We stand 11th now and Tampa Bay is 9th - with a win we would be 1 point ahead of Tampa with 2 games in hand. So it is a 4 point game - Either we are 1 ahead of them after tonight or 3 behind them. We have 4 games in hand with Florida but are tied with them.
These 2 games are good ones to win - so we can attempt to distance ourselves from these teams that are sticking around the 8th place mark.

We are in 11th but if we won our "Games In Hand" we are actually par with 6th place.

Blake is 26th in goal scoring race and Yashin is 23rd in point race - with games in hand.

Someone needs to kidnap Marty St. Louis so he can't score in the final minute of regulation to beat us. Anyone seen the movie Celtic Pride? Just for this game, then he can be released into the wild. LETS GET HIM!!

This should be a good one.

1. They Isles have played their best game of the season against the Stars and won. The Dads are here and morale ( I would think) would be at a season high.

2. The Isles got whipped by Tampa Bay before. Coach ripped into them.

Those two combined should lead to an Isles team which wants to play well for Dad, the coach, and the people on this board.

Final Score;

Isles 5

Tampa Bay 2

I hate playing Tampa.

Why does this team even exist? Shouldn't hockey be played somewhere where water can freeze?

Anyway, I agree that morale is high and that they won't want another bad outing versus Tampa. I see a close, hard-fought game.

4-2 Isles.

My parents are going to the game too....lucky fools. They had tix during the 80's run, and now they're retired in Florida and go to Tampa games. God I can't wait to retire!

So Kristie, keep an eye out for 2 retired North Eastern Isle fans drivin a champagne Buick LeSabre....oh wait, you're in Florida

The Lightning severely test the Isles most of the time, and the reason is simple. We don't have the defensive depth to stop their 3 amigos.

If somehow we can have all 3 defense pairings play responsibly in front of the net we will win this game, mark my words. If not, it will be the same old song and dance (a Tampa Bay win behind St. Louis in the final minutes.)

I'm thinking, with back to back games, Campoli gets to play either tonight or tomorrow.

Isles -3
Tampa - 2
OT

Blake gets the winner.

If St. Louis scores tonight I don't know what I'll do........

But after that game against Dallas, the Islanders have to be feeling good about themselves...

If we win we start a winning streak .... but we are playing Tampa. We play amazing 5 on 5 hockey vs them lately and always wind up losing. So i predicted a loss against Dallas and Ill predict a loss again tonight
