How's Alex Barta doing so far this season?
I know that he's the only team-captain now, but that doesn't tell me very much about how he is playing
Sealink could you tell me what are Berlin's strenght and weakness this season so far? I am a big fan but live in Canada so I can't see the games. Do you think they can finnish in 1st place or is it too late. Right now they are 17PTS behind Mannheim in 6th place. Danke.

Looks like the Lions are heading for serious trouble. I'm getting that runaway train feeling? Panthers win 4-1 . Could the season be over?? Too many injuries and too many off ice distractions? I hope not,but I'm not feeling too good right now.

Still a seven point lead over Iserlohn, who aren't exactly on fire, either.

Besides, Hamburg is a team which always gives its worst against opponents who are in a slump, especially if they are close in the standings.

I'd like to say, I hate Mannheim for winning against Berlin yesterday, but I can't.
2 3/4 periods Berlin didn't look as if they really had a chance. Only during the last 5 minutes they really fighted...
Maybe someone should have told them, that it would help to shoot the puck on the goal instead of not doing so... And if they shooted, it was always on Pelletier...
I believe the team was still tired/exhausted from the Spenglercup.
Hope they will do better against Ingolstadt next week...

Yes, that is what I unfortunately thought Has there been a lot of talk about a possible new arena downtown? I know you have mentioned it before ,but I just wonder how serious it is on the radar of Frankfurt?

we are still within two points into (direct) play off qualification ... so let us all calm down. It was hard to me travel abot 450 Miles and see them hopelesly loose in Hamburg like a bunch of peewee guys.

But hey, according to my favorite american author Paul Auster from NY, "if you expect nothing more the world is able to offer you, the world turns around and awards you something"

so .... GO LIONS !!!

Anyword on any new player additions to next year's Lions squad? Not to say I'm giving up on this season , but I just am wondering with Hackert on the move out of town.

I think they decided to build the thing close to the Commerzbank Arena so both facilities can share parking lots. I don't know when they start building it though.

But the construction work on Berlins new Arena - the "O2 World" - has started in October.

I don't think Frankfurt will get far this year especially not now with Podhradsky out for the rest of the season.

So it has been decided to build a new Arena? Wonder if it's supposed to be like the new one in Berlin or SAP Arena in Mannheim? Wow, thought it was just something being thrown around as an idea?

No it hasn't being decided but every other week you read something about it in the news and then it sounds like they're going to start building it shortly. The only thing they decided is that if they build it, it's going to be close to the former Waldstadion and not in Offenbach or Eschborn which were the alternatives.

Perhaps it is time for a real prospect thread...
Right now I'm too lazy to make one, so I'll just put the Germans who are on the CSS midterm-rankings here.

There are 11 Germans on the list, plus one goaltender, quite a few of them are overagers. For those, their first year of eligibility is listed behind each player.

OMG I can't believe Martin Hinterstocker is on that list, that's ridicioulous. He's born in '83 and will never be better than a third-liner in the DEL.

Martin Hinterstocker of Rosenheim was born in '89 and is currently playing in Rosenheims Oberliga team. He started the season in the DNL but got promoted to the senior team together with 4 other 17-year old kids.

There are also 2 other Hinterstockers. Benjamin (born in '79) is playing DEL for Hamburg. And I don't know where his younger brother Martin (born '83) ended up. He played for Hamburg last season. Their fathers first name is......Martin.... and he's a german hockey hall-of-famer.

I think those scouts do a crappy job scouting german talents. The amount of overagers is a indicator for that.
Where's Stefaniszin for example?

Nittel (Spylo) is back in the DEL

Though this time it's not Adam but his smaller brother Ahren. Davos loans him for two games to Hamburg, with an option for the rest of the season, which is likely to be used.

Apparently Capla wanted him before the season began. Should be the best German you could get right now.

Not the offensive defenseman Hamburg needs, but he doesn't count as a foreigner, so there is still hope for that as well. Although Hamburg is already maxing out its budget.

I read somewhere that they dismissed him for disciplinary reasons and that the management doesn't want to say more about it.
