After a three day break, the Boys from Blueland take to the ice for the first of 3 division games in 4 nights (Caps, Bolts, and Cats). Hopefully this return won't be like the one last Friday night. This losing streak has helped to put the Canes into a tie for first in the division, and this is not acceptable!
I'm calling the entire team out, from the top line to whoever washes the uniforms. The season is a quarter of the way through and we need to stockpile points at this point in the season. The team looked lost at times, in particular one Kari Lehtonen. After starting out like a house on fire, he's seemed to have lost his mojo as of late (Over his last 9 games, he is 2-4-2 with a 4.65 GAA and a .847 save %). Moose is getting the start tonight. Perhaps Kari needs to ride the pine for a few games.
That being said, here's my prediction for tonight's game.
btn, sorry about the double, just took a little while to type mine, could you merge them....thanks
Never mind, brought mine over
After pulling off a 4 game win streak, the Thrashers have done a complete 180 and have pulled off a 4 game losing streak. Nice to see Mr. Hyde is still part of the teams personalty.
Washington has pulled 6 points out of the last 5 games and are playing some pretty decent hockey right now.
Atlanta still has the 8th ranked unit in the NHL with 24 PPGs and a 19.2% rate of success.
Washington has the 16th ranked unit in the NHL with 17 PPGs and a 15.9% rate of success.
Atlanta has the 19th ranked unit in the NHL with 22 PPG against and a 82.4% rate of success.
Washington has the 17th ranked unit in the NHL with 20 PPG against and a 82.5% rate of success.
Havelid is back in Sweden at his Mother's Funeral, so Popovic gets the start tonight. The question is, who is paired with Sutton. Do we dare put Coburn or Hnidy up with Sutton in what will probably be our second pairing tonight? Do we insert Popovic straight into that pairing and leave Coburn and Hnidy together as the 3rd pair? Or do we break up deVries and Vish and put one of them with Sutton? I say..................put Popovic with Sutton. I don't trust Coburn or Hnidy with major minutes and don't want deVries and Vish broken up......unless it is when deVries is moved in a trade.
Holik will be paired with Kozlov and Hossa tonight with Kapanen and Slater given the chance to center the 3rd pairing tonight.
The Moose is Loose again tonight.
Hedberg: 3-2, 2.56 GAA, .905 save % Career vs. Caps, 4-2, 2.94 GAA, .903 save %
Kolzig: 6-4, 3.00 GAA, .918 save % Career vs. Thrashers, 12-9, 2.67 GAA, .907 save %
I forgot to do a callout the other night and I think I know who I need to call out tonight. I might anger the "Army" a little with this one, but I think Mr. Kovalchuk needs to step his game up. During our little 4 game losing streak he has only 3 pts and is a -2 all while averaging over 24 minutes of ice time. He is not acting like the franchise player that he is. 17 shots on goal and only getting 1 goal is not going to cut it sir. Kovy is not a defensive specialist, he is not the all around player Hossa is, he is our sniper, the one we pay to score and score in bunches. Now last time we played the Caps and he was in a funk, he responded with a 3 point night and scored the game winner. This is what we need from you tonight Kovy, you may not have an A or a C on your uniform, but tonight your team needs you to step up and be the leader of the offense and right the ship, pulling your team out of it's funk in the process. So Kovy, the target is squarely on your back tonight, what are you going to do about it?
On a side call out, Slater would you put the freaking puck in the back of the net.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Caps usually seem to be the tonic for what ails us, Thrash win a close one 3-1 .
We could set up a GDT reservation thread to avoid scenarios like this.
I'm calling out the entire team tonight and especially the top guns to show us, why they are being payed millions of dollars. Also it's a perfect time for the vets to show their worth and lead the team out of this hole.
The defence may struggle and it's up the offense to outscore the Caps, if needed.
