Can you blame him for being unhappy? If I were treated the way he's been treated, I'd be unhappy too.

Thats not true! At the end of last year, the reigns were turned over to him, and had R2 not broken his finger we could have gone farther in the playoffs. I dont think I ever compared Denis or holmqvist to Burkie - I like Burkie too much.

But again I guess the Lightning are sooooo terrible for treating him so badly by sending him to Springfield to ride the bus and collect all those paychecks totaling $1.6M.
Maybe this is his form of revenge? Or on the other hand, not everything is his fault - the team in front of him isnt that amazing.

I mean, I see what you're saying, and I agree with it, but it could also be other things.

The Bolts signed him to a contract to play in the NHL, they should be forced to honor it.

The CBA disagrees.

Hate the skill level, not the player.

I could be content with $1.6M in a year for playing peewee hockey.

Ohh please, stop making excuses for him, yes he had a good career, but he did not play well enough to help this team do anything, you can't be so blind. It's okay if you like him, but to dislike our other goaltenders (who are actually helping the team ) and wishing them to do bad, is going way overboard.

I have a question. (That is not just directed at you Maria) While I have no problem admitting Holvmqvist is playing very well, why is it that Denis is getting a free pass?

2005-06 goaltender stats

Sean Burke 2.80 GAA .895 Sv %
John Grahame 3.06 GAA .889 Sv%

2006-07 goaltender stats

Marc Denis 3.29 GAA .878 Sv%

Denis is on pace to surpass last years goalie stats, in a bad way, and those goalies were hung out to dry by many in this fan base. Yet this year, after giving up a major asset to get Denis, and signing him to a nice deal even though we are up against the cap, Denis appears to be getting a free pass, while the Burke issue continues to come up. Maybe its me, but something does not add up here.

I would prefer Ramo plays every game but in fairness to Burke the Faloncs Defense played terrible in front of him. We need some help on our blueline and to add another scorer or two. Please Jay. Find a way to get it done.

I agree with you, but im not going to put all the blame on Marc yet, the team played horrible in front of him, of course he played bad, but i don't think all those losses were his fault. At the end of the season we're going to be able to determined whether Marc was worth it or not.

What annoys me, is that some people here are still living on the past, and wishing for our goaltenders to do bad, like that's not going to effect our team. Burke and JG are gone; we should focus more on the goaltenders now.

The sample size is insufficient to judge Denis.

Is it too much to ask that everyone just leave the poor guy alone? He is stuck in a lose - lose situation, dont you think he's dealt with enough and shouldnt have his name dragged through the dirt?

I think that goes both ways. If people aren't supposed to badmouth Burke and Grahame than you shouldn't blindly defend them always.

This issue will never get resolve around here and it does become monotonous.

Everybody seems to have very strong opinions on this subject and it does not appear that anyone will be changing any minds anytime soon, on either side.

It's kind of like the Monty Python sketch where the guy pays for an argument and all he gets is contradiction.

How can I not defend them? It doesnt seem right to let everyone bash them without someone trying to fight back.

How is he in a lose-lose situation. He's going to get paid 1.6 million dollars where ever he goes. Whether it be on the Lightning, Falcons, or some other team. I don't like people bashing him all the time because it's an old subject, but some people act like the Lightning tossed him out on the street, spit on him, then had the whole town laugh at him. It's a buisness and the Lightning don't feel he's one of the top two goalies in the franchise. I don't think the Lightning have mistreated him at all. He had his chances last year to be the #1 when Grahame struggled and only took advantage of one of them before his finger was broken. There are no guranteed jobs in this league and I'm sure Burke knows that. The Lightning were not happy with their goaltending and made changes. If Burke was one of the top two goalies, he would have proved it in camp. Like I said I don't like the bashing he gets all the time, but how exactly has he been put through some terrible situation. He's not good enough to be on the NHL roster, doesn't mean the Lightning are torturing him. The Lightning are in the buisness of winning games, not making sure everyone is happy. Burke, being the professional that he is, went down to Springfield and took it without complaining. If he's not complaining about it, I don't think others should.
