Questions about MacT

1. Why didn't he play in the Heritage Classic?
I understand he has a commitment to the current team but Huddy and Simpson played. It might have done him some good to be on the ice again just as a motivating factor.

2. How can a guy who was a PK and faceoff specialist when he played have a team that is the worst in those areas?

3. Do you find MacT too nonchalant after a loss?

4. Laraque has played some of his best games against the Wings and he's benched again? Why?

5. 2 losses in 6 games isn't reason to panic but are MacT's days numbered or is he "untouchable" like Martin in Ottawa because of his relationship with KLo?

6. is it time for another "bag skate"?

sure we have Oates coming in and Reasoner not far off but if this team is indeed as "deep" as we think then what's the problem? are the players not listening? is there a stigma that comes from being coached by a Stanley Cup winner and not being able to live up to that expectation? are the players ticked about the Comrie issue? people forget that he is close with alot of the guys.

thoughts? rants?

I'm no big fan of MacT, but a lose that just grew uglier as the night went on happens to everybody. You forget we were playing the team that split with the Avs to win the west/cup. They have the ability to have REALLY good games and make teams who don't come out with their best effort look REAL bad. It hurt losing a couple of Dmen and playing with only 4 guys backthere. The faceoffs AND special teams will improve when Reasoner and Oates return - but will it improve a satisfactory amount? Let's hope so.

It can't get any worse than this game, surely...??!? But if we can assume (!!) that this young team was going to have a real stinker of a game and get blown out once this season, then let's be glad the game came at this stage of the season and not in the later stages as the team is facing more pressure to make the playoffs. Ah well. Let's see if they were embarrassed enough to come out gangbusters against the Avs.

#1 - I heard he just wanted to focus on the 2 point game and let the oldtimers have their day in the sun.
#2 - Gretzky is the best scorer of all time but that doesn't mean any of the Coyotes have the skill or ability to learn how to do that. These Oilers are missing key players for these areas - Reasoner and Oates will help drastically.
#3 - MacT is a good coach is thought of very highly throughout the league. He may look nonchalant but listen to some of his post game interviews - he is as firy a coach that there is without being an idiot about it and ripping his team publicly.
#4 - Laraque has been pathetic this year. The other guys have earned there ice and he hasn't. Get rid of him - he is a waste of well over a mil.
#5 - Untouchable at this point for many reasons. He is a good coach no matter how badly people dislike him. The Oilers made a long term committment to him and every member of the coaching staff is friends/respects his coaching ability. No need to get irrational.
#6 - To me the past 3 games have all be part of the Heritage Hangover. THe Columbus game was a lucky point - but any team can get shelled in HockeyTown. To me the telling games are yet to come. Let the players rest - they have had a bizarre week, and watch the game on Friday. I'm willing to bet they are energized and emotional. Plus, Colorado will be without Forseberg (the Oilers killer) and Kariya. I think they will have a strong game.

You really do have to take it on the chin, and accept that this was a valley... I mean with all the excitment of the past 2 weeks, the boys have to be on empty right now...

Add that to having to play on back to back nights, and you can't really be that suprised with a result like last night.

Not to say they should just shrug it off... they need to learn that you gave to play on fumes sometimes, and when you do you can't make mistakes. I am not going to insist on the firing of Mac-T, or start calling for heads, because this is a young team, and this stuff happens every now and then. At least it was against Detroit, and not a team like Columbus or something like that.

They were also a team missing a few very good players from a game where we tied them 4-4 and shoulda won. Any way you slice it, last night was pathetic and embarassing.

We had a guy named BOOTLAND givng us fits.....need I say more?

I guess that was my reason for wanting Laraque in the lineup. He could have put Bootland in his place and motiviated the team.

Here's what Robert Tychkowski of the Sun had to say about the Laraque scratch:

ENCOURAGING GEORGES: Georges Laraque was a healthy scratch against the Red Wings, but it's not because MacTavish has been displeased with his performance. He just wanted more speed out there and Tony Salmelainen fit the bill. "I've been pretty happy with the way Georges has been playing the last couple of games,'' said MacTavish. "He's doing a lot of things better. That's real encouraging for him.''
