Pisani does alot of little things well.

Ty Conklin is a battler.....
Speaking of the Oiler D, I don't understand what they are doing when the Oilers actually win the faceoff, the d-man moves a few steps towards the front of the faceoff circle, then shoots the puck along the boards. By the time the puck reaches the other side, there's no one there. They do this play alot and I friggin don't know why. Man it's frustrating.

Did York play after that collision with Hinote?

I'm not sure I seen him out there.

Well after thumping the Oilers, I guess they are not "letting the highs get them too high"......

Those damn wings, it looked like they had magnets on their sticks last game, it was ridiculous the way the bounces were going.

The Oilers started to come on in the late stages of the first, which is, of course, always good to see. Oates is playing well and it makes me wonder if he'll have new linemates at some point in this game.

The second is starting. Go Oilers!

Man the oilers radio play by play guy is great!! "Hemsky has got to be awake out there!!"

I love listening to CHED. Great team for the Oilers games.

Wow... 2-0 Avs. Sakic with both goals. I have hardly heard from Smyth or York so far.

now that the oilers have oates, why don't they flip the puck in on goal and set up the pp by having oates win face-offs? He is a weapon that they didn't use once on that last pp.

Makes no sense to me that MacT puts out Hemsky and Oates on the PP together. Why not Dvorak with Oates, at least then you'd have a guy who will shoot the puck?

My thoughts exactly. Once Oates is on one of the top two lines, I sure hope his right winger is Dvorak and not Hemsky simply because no one but the guy on the left side of the ice (Smyth?) will want to shoot.

Smyth - Oates - Dvorak
Torres - York - Hemsky

By the way, nice dive by Selanne.

Horcoff and Isbister = momentum killers

Bad passes, bad decisions. I think Oates is gonna want to get in shape fast so he can be rewarded with better linemates.

As soon as Horcoff touches the puck, you can be sure he's going to lose it by a) a bad pass or b) holding on too long to the puck. He needs to sit. And Isbister, he looks like a rookie out there.

On the positive side, the Oilers are generating good chances. The game could have been easily tied by now. Let's hope for a big third period.

Man this is exactly what I was thinkin. We got ourselves another passer for our pp. uhm i always thought we passed the puck around way too much BEFORE oates, now what? lol.

Seriously though, Im lovin Oates in the faceoff circle. He has shown flashes of brilliance already and this is only his first game, and hes playing with the 4th line.

The thing I think the oilers stand to gain the most of, is Experience.
The guys on Sportsnet were saying how MAB was all excited about Oates, and how Oates was talking to him and telling him how Gonchar used to do it in washington - that is absolutely priceless stuff right htere, something this team has been missing for a long long time.

Not to diss any longtime oilers, but we never had anyone in the room that won a cup (or has gone deeper than say the 2nd round) before. Now we all know Oates doesnt have his name on the big mug, but still he has tons of NHL and Playoff experience which as I said before, is priceless.

Heh im doing double-takes every time I see Oates 77 on the TV it just seems so surreal- im lovin it...oh crud here comes the McD's commercial

well perhaps some more emotion from this lackluster bunch would be much better. i don't see a team with intensity tonight more like going through the motions. yes they are not playing bad but they are not doing the little things which might help them win this game like winning the battles in the avalanche zone.

Hey, a game thread that rips Horcoff less than 20 times!!!! Come on people, are you sleeping?

They're porridge tonight imo, some things to like but they're playing like a team that knows they're going to lose.
