Ramo called up- Denis has Visa problems

620 is reporting that Ramo has been called up to the Lightning. I doubt it'd be for a trade, I'm guessing Holmqvist or Denis is sick/injured.

Lightning have a press release on their site:
Quote:
The Tampa Bay Lightning have recalled goaltender Karri Ramo from Springfield of the American Hockey League today, Executive Vice President and General Manager Jay Feaster announced.

Since they were in the neighborhood why not. He deserves it based on his play here. Interesting to see if he gets into a game or just rides the pine.

The next few games are monsters: Buffalo, Atlanta, and Anaheim. Doesn't seem like a good time to throw a rookie goalie in net.

Based on that I'd say he rides the pine. If that's the case, unless someone is hurt, why call him up anyways ? To sit and watch.

I agree. I don't see the point in calling him up and taking important playing time away from him unless they either plan on playing him in a game, a trade is coming, or Denis/Holmqvist is sick or hurt.

I'm going for the last one.

I guess it's good for him to be called up, see what the NHL is like, and practice with the big club. But if it's a temporary situation, why not call up Burke? I'd rather have Burke ride the pine and take a chance of someone hopefully claiming him on re-entry waivers and let Ramo stay in Springfield to keep playing. Just a thought.

There are no reports of Denis being injured, and he looked perfectly fine last night. If Holvmqvist were hurt, I would hope they would have called him up prior to last nights game. I dont get the feeling this is injury related.

If there isn't a trade and he doesn't dress for a game... it would seem like a waste of cap space to me. We are so close to the cap that every game we are taking a hit without that person contributing it hurts.

I just thought of this, and I hope the answer is ZERO, but what are the chances this is a way of showing him off to other teams? Ramo is really young and has a truckload of talent.

Any chances Tampa moves him+ for picks/prospects?

Maybe to the kings, their goaltending is scary.

No. Those were fixed before the first game of the season and he played last night. I doubt that's it.

I also doubt they are showcasing Ramo for a trade. With no other young goalie in the system and Holmqvist a UFA at the end of the year, I don't see why they would. If Kosheckin were also in NA, I would say it's a possibility. But with him reportedly not being very anxious to leave Russia and Helenius still only 18, there's not much left in the pipeline close to NHL ready. I don't think there's much cap room to make a deal if they were to trade Ramo for an upgrade anyway.

Edit: Looks like you were right GWF.

Marc Denis did not accompany the team to Ottawa today because he is still experiencing visa issues, which have dogged him twice this season. Though his status allows him, as a Canadian citizen, to work in the US, his status is still pending. The team has been advised that it is best not to allow him to leave the country as it could create an issue when he tries to re-enter the States.

Figured that could probably be the only thing, aside from a personal issue with either goalie that would cause this problem..especially with it being a game in Canada

Weird how this process takes so long. I guessed that after the opener in Atlanta everything was ok.

Maybe because it is more of a long term call up. We have all been hearing rumors that Denis is on the block, no? Holmqvist has surely taken the #1 spot and maybe Jay doesn't want to have a 2.87 million dollar backup.

If it was short term because of injury I would have expected it to be Burke for that reason. Something weird is going down.

And if it is a health issue, why not announce it? No harm in that, is there?

I had it mixed up in another thread, but Boltsfan2029 corrected me. Coming back to the US is the problem.

The earlier issue was pre-season when they were in Montreal. Getting back to the US is the problem. Seems visas have an expiration date.
