Thank god I got tiockets tonight. I have been excited to watch Oates play all week. I think it is obvious he will help in more ways than one. To me the Oilers are instantly a better team whether he plays 5 mins or 15 mins. Experience is very important and this guy has a ton.

I think we should seperate the passers. Also, I believe Oates will have an easy go at it for a couple of games. Maybe...

Torres - York - Dvorak
Smyth - Horcoff - Hemsky
Moreau - Stoll - Pisani
Chimera - Oates - Laraque

Laraque is a good idea because maybe the old guy can make a prolific scorer out of Georges. And maybe I'll retire a Billionaire. At the very least he can watch out for the old guy, open the door at the player bench, and humor him smiling and nodding to stories of "the old days".

Why take Isbister out of the lineup.

He has been consistently goo since coming back.

He seems to be turning the corner (He was alomost completely around the corner until he met a giant named Zdeno) who turned him back 6 blocks!!)

I just don't like this line. Imagine the play by play guy here:
"Oh my, Oates makes a beauty pass to Chimera ... ooooh, he misses the net... Oates collects the puck, makes a pass to Laraque ... he circles the net, circles, circles, circles, shoots, save by Sauve."

Oates needs at least Smyth to pass to.

Good point.

That 1g, 1a the other night was great.

I suppose we could replace Chimera with him.

This won't happen tonight but this is what I'd like to see:

Smyth - Oates - Dvorak
Torres - York - Hemsky
Moreau - Stoll - Pisani
Isbister - Horcoff - Salmelainen

You can't break up Torres-York-Dvo... at least not yet.

I honestly don't see why this line is a big problem with everyone:

Smyth - Oates - Hemsky...

Yeah I know Oates and hemmer are both passers, but this is how I see it working...

Oates gets the puck in the Oilers zone on a breakout from one of the defencemen, and they use Oates as the way to get the puck out of the zone, and feed it to hemmer as he skates through the neutral zone, letting him carry the puck into the opposing end, and setting up Smyth. I think you will find a lot of Oates's assists being second assists where he starts the rush from his end or the neutral zone.

It's official!

2003-11-28 - OILERS ACTIVATE ADAM OATES

Centre Adam Oates has been activated by the Edmonton Oilers and will be in the lineup for tonight’s game versus the Colorado Avalanche at Rexall Place.

Oates and the Oilers came to an agreement on a one-year contract on November 17th and the veteran centre will begin his 19th NHL season tonight. Edmonton becomes Oates’ seventh NHL team since making his League debut in 1985-86 with the Detroit Red Wings.

Oates, who will wear sweater #77, is the 15th leading scorer in NHL history with 339-1063-1402 in 1277 career games and ranks sixth all-time in career assists.

To make room for Oates on the team’s 23-man roster, the Oilers have assigned left winger Tony Salmelainen to the Toronto Roadrunners. Salmelainen, who scored 0-1-1 in 10 games with the Oilers this season, will join the Roadrunners in Winnipeg, MB, for a two-game series against the Manitoba Moose on Saturday-Sunday, November 29th-30th.

Lines this morning at practice were:

Torres-York-Hemsky
Moreau-Smyth-Pisani
Izzy-Stoll-Hemsky
Oates-Horcoff-Laraque

That's right, Oates is playing on the wing tonight. Only temporary until his conditioning is 100%. He'll see plenty of special teams time too though.

The way MacT juggles lines, if Oates plays well he could be moved intot he middle and on a higher line by the third period anyway.

Interesting...

Maybe Oates can spark Clearcoff instead.

So that leaves:

York
Dvorak
Torres
Hemsky
Isbister
Smyth
Oates
Pisani
Moreau
Stoll
Laraque
Chimera
Horcoff

So who sits tonight?

If they put Brewer on the IR, does that mean they could call up Salmo again if they want to, they'd be under the limit then.

Where is Dvorak? He isn't hurt is he? Why isn't he measuring in on any line combos if this were the lineup?

So Chimera sits. I would've rather have seen Salmo & Chimera instead of Horcoff and BG, but otherwise that's about the lineup I expected, other than Hemsky being double-shifted...

What about D pairings? Any ideas? Where's the Goon?

Never mind...he's over at Oilfans. :p

Here's the D pairs according to Thegoon63:

Smith-Staios
Bergeron-Ferguson
Semenov-Cross

No Allen tonight.
