One could argue the 2000-01 season that gave him his reputation of being one of the most talented players in the league.
True, but I guess he falls into the class of players like Iginla, St. Louis, and maybe even Lecavalier (although has he even had a "superstar" season yet.) who are getting paid based on one exceptional season.
Not to take away from any of these players, but they are getting paid like they should routinely put up 90+ points when it reality it looks like they are 70 point guys who had a great year.
Like I said, Kovalev is getting is getting paid for production GM's think he could do not what he's actually done, aside from 2000-01. No doubt he's talented as hell, but he's flaky, and that 95 point seasons seems more like an aberration than the norm when it comes to Kovalev. If anything it lifts expections higher to levels he simply can't reach under normal circumstances.
*As an aside, the three I named have more of chance of regaining their "elite" form than Kovalev. I was just using them as examples of people who had gotten large contracts based one seemingly abnormal season.
OT- Who'll never guess who scored to tie the game at 1-1 between Bost. and Tor....Brad Stuart Hopefully, the Laffs cough up another one I'm really enjoying the anxiety that's currently gripping T.O.
Habs need to stay strong in the 3rd.
Go HABS GO.
I think Koivu got the winner. Perez gets the insurance goal!

5 even strength. Not to take anything away from him, but everyone knows how he gets his goals.
The point is that he knows how to get them. You don't need a fancy shot or deke all the time. He knows where you need to be for the right tip in. I respect the offensive-side of his game, but nothing else.

Agreed. When it's all said and done, though, it's just about what they've done. I remember when Amonte would get a highlight reel goal each week 4 years ago.
