Yzerman, still want to call him a gimp?

I remember during pre-season all the negative comments this man was getting. Was called a gimp, cripple, and a one legger.
Where are all those people now and in case you are unaware, Yzerman has 10 goals, 9 assists in 23 games. Only nine NHL centers have more points than he does.

bionic leg? ... since when? ... when was that surgery ... stevie is by no means a gimp, having ur leg sawed in half then re aligned is far from bionic.... now if his leg were amputated and replaced w/ a computerized leg then u'd have a leg to stand on w/ that comment ... andyes all pun intended

Interesting that on paper the center position looked like the Wings weakest at the start of this season, with Yzerman being a question mark to even play that position this year. Instead the Wings have two of the league's top 10 scoring centers (Datsyuk and Yzerman), and their 3rd line center (Draper) is one of the team's leading goal scorers.

I love all these people who said Yzerman is washed up and Pavel's hit the wall.

Fools.

Damn people and their viewpoints.

and most people who were wings fans had doubts that Yzerman would be putting up the points like he has this year. It doesn't make someone a fool it makes them realists.

and pavel will fall back down to earth. Look at the teams he has put up points against: Edmonton, New York Islanders, Columbus, LA.

All I am saying is he has proved nothing yet the way you hype him is like he was going to get 100 points.

Must everything be about Datsyuk? I know he's your boy, and all.
I really don't recall many people saying he'd hit the wall, anyway.

As for Yzerman, he's been very good (though he's looked a little slower recently).
I'd much rather he take some time off now so we can have him as healthy as possible in the playoffs.
Still, I'm very impressed with what he's done so far.

He has produced pretty well this far, but it's obvious he is not the player he used to be, especially when it comes to skating. I think he still can get points here and there but I don't see him as the impact player he used to be.

I don't understand...

Between this time last year and now, the guy goes out and almost quadruples his point total...and also has one of the best shot percentages in the league...and still gets no respect.

While the other one comes back, plays games he wasn't supposed to play, has one of the highest point totals on the team, and is also among some of the league leaders, and he can't get any respect either.

I don't get it...

Let's look at the 2 last cup winners. They were not ranked high in individual scoring stats but they did the one thing all other teams could do; win the cup.

Fans here are so into stats that they can't comprehend the team aspect of the game. That is why they will always looks upon the Wings and Devils with jealousy. Let them have all the goals scored, point leaders, etc. they want, until they have the cup they will not understand that team play wins out over individual stats.

If I recall, it was mostly Wings fans initiating the talk that Yzerman wouldn't be able to hold up to the center position on his rebuilt knee. So why is it that everyone else gets the spin that he gets no respect?

As for Datsyuk, I agree with Newsguyone, this thread isn't about him, so why mention him at all?

I guess it's true...you're never appreciated until after you're dead and gone.

Comparing Datsyuk to this time last year is ridiculous.
We don't want the Datsyuk from the first half of last year.
We want the Datsyuk from the second half of last year.
He's not reached that level of play quite yet. However, his goal scoring is more than welcome.

And I feel obligated to tell you that shot percentage means almost NOTHING.
With a guy like Datsyuk, it just means he doesn't shoot a lot, and that he's not the kind of player who takes low percentage shots and hopes for a rebound or deflection.
